Windscreen quality differences?

Does anyone know if there are any "better than the average" windscreens out there? i have a pair of Octava MC012's, and i did an outdoor sound reinforcement gig with them, and even with some stock radio shack windscreens they were howling. the windscreens fit perfectly, and i backed them off the capsule a half inch, and that helped a little, but they still were smacked about by the wind.

are there any "superior quality" windscreens that will give significantly better wind blockage?

I doubt it...especially one that would help your particular problem.

That said....go with the vintage ones...they seem to have an airy analogness to them. Especially the tube ones....very nice. Who was it that had the tube mic satnds? Was that Gidge? These items would make even a 57 sound like U87.
