Just wondering... will this stuff work as good as it says? The company provides NRC ratings and everything but Im just wondering... also, is this stuff only so much cheaper because it doesnt have a good fire resistant properties as auralex?

The numbers are questionable, suspiciously high. Anybody can put numbers in a table, but do they have test results from an independent lab?

The general consensus is that foam won't do you as well as fiberglass or rock wool products.

That still doesn't tell you its absorption coefficient per frequency band. An NRC is a speech range coefficient rating. Not music. It means nothing when music is concerned.

nah that doesnt worry me... i think they just use that as a marketing term to make stupid people think it will really help soundproof... kinda the same as using the term "warmth"... it just makes the product seem better than it really is...

Kinda like the NRC thing huh? If they can fool a few "stupid" people with "soundproofing" claims, they can fool a few "stupid" people with absorption claims too. That is the point. They lie. Get it?

Well,

Having looked into this in some real depth a while back - due to the same questions,

Foam Factory also does business as "Foam By Mail"

They used to post standard absorbtion test data until we discovered that they had never apparently had their product actually tested.

The numbers were virtually identical to Auralex. Apparently they figured foam is foam and "borrowed" the test results from Auralex.

Their products material composition and densities are not the same as the foam produced by Auralex - and thus differences are to be expected.

So I see now that they have removed the absorbtion charts......

As far as the product goes - without actual test results to compare - no one can tell you what this product is worth as far as sound attenuation goes.

At least with reputable companies like Auralex - you know what you're getting.

Personally I would not purchase products from this company.

DIY is a good choice from 703, 705, rockwool, etc. That's the cheapest way to get quality bass control.

Otherwise, talk to Glenn at GIK Acoustics. His absorbers are made from 4" 8lb Rockwool I beleive which will do a nice job of bass control. When you compare the pricing, make sure to consider the square footage your're actually getting and the density of the matierials. Look at the price and size of the LENRD vs. the price and size of one of the GIK panels.

Unfortunately, bass control just takes some money. Good and cheap don't go together very well with regard to bass control.

You could also look at RealTraps which do a nice job but are a bit more expensive.

As Bryan said, in this case you often get what you pay for. What matters most is total absorption at low frequences per dollar, not cost per square foot. So a more expensive bass trap may well be a better value than cheap foam because you need fewer of them and can get even better results.

Yea guys check out www.realtraps.com. Ethan did some testing of the foam by mail and really it is junk.. Bryan is right on the money, stick with 703, 705 or mineral wool..

As you guys can see, Ethan, Glenn, and myself all have our own product. Any of them can do a good job if implemented properly. Some take some work, some are pre-made. Some are broadband, some are more targeted. All we care about is getting each person the right solution (and in most cases, any of them will work just fine depending on what the room needs).

As much as I'd like to sell my stuff, not everyone wants to DIY. Some guys don't want to DIY but don't have a lot of money. Some people want broadband bass only - others want full range. I'd rather send business to the right place and turn another person into a believer of the benefits of acoustical treatments being by far the best bang for the buck investment you'll ever make in your system/studio. In the long run, that's best for everybody.

Hey Myfipie!!

I wanted to tell you I ran across your panels (on ebay, I think) so I found your website and I immediately found your prices to be reasonable. I hadn't bought any though. Later on, I was getting my hair cut at a salon and they were talking about how the room we were in was too echoy (echo-ee). They were hiring two more stylists to work in the same room which is like 12' wide, 16' long, and 8' to 12' high (angled). It has tile floors and sheetrocked walls. I hadn't (still haven't) started making absorbers for myself yet so I made a blind plug for your products and they actually ordered some. They said later that they didn't know if they hung them exactly right but that they really worked to kill the echo and make the room easier to be in when the 3 hair dryers are going off. I'm going next week for a trim and I can't wait to see your product. I may be becoming a customer of yours. Anyway, I just thought I'd share that info with you.

I think the best email I have ever gotten was a person who wanted to lower the volume of the room because there kid was to loud!!! ha h aha.. Needless to say I did not respond to that email..
