Why shouldn't I buy a VF 16?

I'm about to take the plunge and get a stand alone digital HDR for home and occasional rehearsal room recording. I'm keen on the Fostex VF 16, but was wondering if anyone has been disappointed by the machine, or knows of any major drawbacks it has..

VF-16 Draw Backs

robca,

You won't hear any from me and I think most people that have the VF-16 are fairly satisfied for the money. We are all waiting for an OS upgrade which is slated to come out next month. Hopefully, it will include some of the things that all of us have been bitching about. I have had a Yamaha, a Tascam, an FD-4 and now my VF-16.
Most of the things that bug me (and most users) can be lived with. Once everything is tweaked and the machine understood, it is a good deal for what you pay.
So, draw backs that would make me tell to tell others not to buy it........none.

robca,I have had mine for about 3 months. Not one complaint here. This thing rocks compared to my old analog 4trk.I am still learning how it works, the day job takes up most of my time.
Well I guess I do have 1 complaint.Besides the minor upgrade that isnt here yet...since I am not used to digital recording I have had to rewire 2 guitars and buy all kinds of new cables because they were SO old and the VF-16 picks up every little sound.I am so used to tape hiss masking everything.I love it.
I dont think you will be disapointed.
Bruce,do you know what the upgrade is supposed to include? And how do you install it?

Do a comparison

Rocka,
You might want to compare the D824 HDR without HD for as low as $1150. The HD can be had for under $100 and installing it will save about $300. There is no mixer with this unit so you would need to get a Fostex mixer also. The advantang is that the specs of the D824 are on par with top Pro gear, but with less tracks. I paid $1500 for mine with HD from DigitalProAudio.com.
Just a thought.
