ear art's not a science
Being new to cakewalk, but familiar with many other programs, I can't help but ask why no one is producing an instructional video. I have found these very helpful in other programs of equal difficulty. photoshop is a good example. I learned more in an hour watching someone else manipulate a photo, than I did in months of experimenting on my own. If you are a cakewalk guru there is an opportunity here to have a pretty nice income from producing a home video(since a pro version is not available) of tips and tricks. I have done it myself with photoshop and a video camera. No it was not a pro job but it sure helped the people who I was teaching to work graphics. The sonar manual pretty much stinks and the other resources are all books as well. I have been struggling with this program for over 3 months and can barely record anything worthwhile. I dont want to be a pro sound guru but I would like to be able to produce a fair recording of my music. Every new recording poses yet another challenge of hidden knowledge and hunting for "whats wrong now". yes I know that you all have been there but did you have any help, firsthand, and did you go ,WoW, I didnt know that, at any time if someone did show you something. There are a lot of people out there who do not know anyone who uses the program and therefore we are all forced to invent the wheel over and over. The person who produces a good lenghty video of audio manipulation in cakewalk/ sonar can make a nice profit and probably offset equipment costs. I know that I would buy one for $25, would you? please don't respond that the best way to learn this is through hard work and experimentation. I know this bit a little educational help is in order with a program like this. someone with good teaching skills and cakewalk knowledge set up a video camera and show off your knowledge. then put it up on ebay.

For one thing, the market is pretty small for it to be worth the expense of a professional effort. And how many people would buy something from someone that purports to be a SONAR/Cakewalk expert and bought themselves a digital camcorder and a copy of Vegas or Premiere? Very few. You can't just throw together a decent tutorial video - it requires time, thought, and a lot of effort. If I thought it would be actually worth the time and effort I'd do it myself (though I am by no means qualified enough neither as a SONAR "expert" nor as a video producer), but I know for a fact it would be a giant sinkhole of time and effort with almost no return, if any. And in a year or less out comes SONAR 3, and the video loses some (maybe a lot) of its potential usefullness.

I want to spend my time using SONAR, and I don't mind helping with questions and stuff, but I'd never do a video thing unless I knew it was something that would bring me significant financial gain. And I suspect everyone else feels the same.

Did you hear that, AlChuck? We could have a second business going on here. You are the master of all things Cakewalk, I get the high profile gigs (next one is Mannheim Steamroller, not sure if that is a plus or a minus). I have another gig with YES coming up too, so I can supply the names and you supply the knowledge. Paul881 can be our European dealer.

I am too fat to be on video, so we will do a Blues Traveler/Milli Vanilli deal, and hold auditions for the part of DavidK. I think Kiefer Sutherland should play me.

I have a digital Camcorder, I think I will call Kiefer tonight and see what he thinks...

Wow, one guy willing to put up $25, another for $35... a couple of more and we'll be into the hundreds of dollars!!!!

OK, but my wife insists we get Michael McConaughy, Mark Harmon, or George Clooney to play me. Actually, she says I can go and make a video and she wants one of those three as a replacement. Now I need a weeping avatar!

I have a DV camera, and what's more, I have Vegas Video 3.0 and a lot of experience in technical writing and image capturing and manipulation...

If the video has got explosions, car chases and gratuitous nudity(female of course)I'll buy one!:D

How about subliminal nudity? (Sounds like a great name for a rock band.)

One more customer and we -- dare I say it? -- enter the realm of hundreds of dollars...

Thanks for the new job guys, call me Mr 10%:D The other problem I see with making a video, it that there are so many variables, involved, to cover the ground would take 3 or 4 videos.

My wife says I am so good looking, Kiefer Sutherland and Co should pay me to stand in for them.:)

You can tell its Friday and I have been drinking....again.:) What a load of bollocks:eek:

good band name

actually "weeping avatar" would be a good band name too

suggestion from Dave Barry " The Flaming Booty Moths"

its a long story...

A video, there isn't even a dummies book for cake, this looks like a job for Scott Garrigus. He may need a stunt double for face shot's though, he's a little computer geeky looking for the music biz.
