Why do my guitars suck?

in this kind of genre of music, i think the vox should be a little more powerful (i.e. higher/clearer in the mix) than everything else. not too much to where it sounds like karaoke, but a little to where they stand out. IMO

Find the key range of the vocal, put a smiley face EQ in that range over the guitars, no more than 2-3db.

An option is to do a compression duck on the guitars in the smiley face EQ vocal range just when the vocal is active.

That would be the only thing I would add except maybe more bass but I'm on nearfields so that may or may not apply. Take it to the car stereo, that will tell you where the bass is.

are you nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! either your just looking to validate youself with your pears or you really dont know anything about recording. the mix sounds fine except maybee the drums. i know how harr it is to rec. a live drummers but even that sounded decent. im interested in how you tracked the vocals, mics, compressers, etc. i think they stand out .

It is so hellarious as I go from forum to forum and see the same question. Worded to fit the forum even LOL! I am willing to bet you are not satisfied with your guitar tone for one of a couple of reasons:

1)Mic placement is off target
2)Amp is too heavily EQ'd (roll off bass and high and focus on mids)
3)Amp is not suited for the genre you are recording

Most likely of the 3 being number 1. Use 2 of the exact same mic. And deduce placement from AARON CAREY's post in this thread. You can't go wrong. ;)
