I had an Epistone a while back, but the hardware was terrible, and the thing just wouldn't intonate...I shoulda sprung for the real thing, I guess........gibs

Gibs if its epiphone your talking about forget everything past 1969

I imagine there may have been one or two ok things happening after that time but epiphone strictly speaking is anywhere up to 1969 after that you can flip a coin hit and miss.

 uhhhhh...you mean there really wasn't an Epistone guitar made by the same company that made Flintstone guitars?.......I am like, so shocked ........

Oh, I get it, you're pulling my leg!..........Good One !!!!......

So like seriously, the pre-300 BC Epistones are better than the later years?....was that because of the limestone knobs or the claw inlays?.......I would really like to know because there's a couple on ebay that caught my eye.......I'm like really into T. Rex, if you catch my drift, and need to capture that tone thang ........gibs

Gibs, what type of finish came with your Epistone?

I have one with Genuine Brontosaurous Foreskin.

Not really sure on the exact dating but I think its pretty old.Might be an antique by now.I am pretty sure it was made before 1969.

the flintstones guitar i have isn't an epistone...its a gibstone (gibstone did own epistone though). Fred was a star and he wouldn't be caught dead playing an epistone (headstock snob). Gibstones were pretty pricey around 3000 B.C. Probably set fred back a few bones (literally) and a roll in they hay with wilma. The model I have is "the cromagnum-magnum". you didn't want an amp that was too big back then...it would scream alright...but if it was hungry it just might eat you. Yeah I got me a genuine gibstone cromagnum-magnum.....a rock guitar.....cause its made of rock!

hmm

And how did you plug your cromagnum-magnum into your amp? That's probably why it wanted to eat you. :)

hey thats ok guys after 69 they were kind of stoneage feeling type guitars anyway, and for how they looked "well" progress didnt go too far after 69.

As for commercial builders or shall we call them luthiers from those top three icons you all hold so close to your hearts may as well have been working at the quarry with fred and barney :))

considering the crap they released but hey rejoice guys its still a name brand and you can always impress your friends still hey :)

Let's see (looks around), prior to 1960;
1927 Weissenborn
1930's Rickenbacker lap steel
1938 Gibson L-50
1954 Maccaferri
1952 Martin 00-18
1951 Harmony Sovereign

I have a 1977 wine red gibson Les Paul standard that I bought new back then. It is still in great condition. When I had it set up recently, the guy that did it said I could get $3K for it. I think he was just blowing smoke.

But any way, it's a good sounding guitar"

thanks

I'm truly impressed! Lot's of us have some very cool ventage axes.

How 'bout amps? I've got a 64 blonde Fender Bassman 2x12.

I have a few but not sure of the exact year. I have an Ampeg B-42X that's late 60's. Also two Acoustic 450s that are mid 70's. All the rest are relatively new.

I was digging in my yard and discovered a stick that was protruding from a clay-like "guitar body", which had 3 strings made from some unknown material strung from the top of the stick to the clay-body.
Obviously, this is the oldest guitar of anybody on this board.

Oh, BTW, if you look real hard at the top of the stick you'll see these words.... Made in Korea by Samick ;)

Ahhh... the coveted pre-cambrian Samicks.....sweet:D

Track Rat,

It would be more impressive if I could get back all the ones that were stolen.

Firebird64,

Amps? All that's left is a '67 blackface bassman and I'm probably selling it.

darrin, does your violin still have a label inside?I have one and it says "copy of Stradiuarious" my Grandfather bought it used in 1929.It also says "Checho Slovakia".:)
In the amp dept.I have a 1958 Gibson Falcon. Just had it rebuilt and it sounds great for surf music.
