Metal is as alive as it ever was, if not more. You only had to go to this years Donnington to see that.

Wow that was good. I have a better perception but either way dont you think it was funner back then? Everyone in my generation is so close minded ahh I dunno

It was fun. Was it funner? I can't say, I'm not in HS today  There was very little crossover back then too. For example when Aerosmith did "Walk This Way" with Run DMC, a lot of hard rock fans hated them for it. And even among metal fans, there was a fair amount of putting down other metal bands as posers.

Oh yeah, and punks and metal fans generally HATED each other, sometimes to the point of violence.

Metal was never destroyed. The lame shit just rose to the top where the general public could see it, as always.

The best stuff is underground where it belongs.
Correct...metal, or hard rock, has never died, nor gone away...some posers just listen cuz "it's kewl man..." and then go back to listening to boy bands....Hard rock has been around for about 40 years, and will most likely be around in another 40.....

But now theres no type of metal anywhere, just emo shit. And the emo shit came from punk and alternative and grunge shit

dude....come on...there are a thousand metal bands out there, and I mean real American metal, that are alive and kicking...Himsa, The Agony Scene, Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver, Lamb of God, just to name a short few (and you've probably never heard of any of these i'm sure).

first mistake was thinking that what you hear on the radio is a reflection of what is actually going on in music...go to some underground metal shows and tell me that it's dead...some of these bands are selling hundreds of thousands of albums, and making a living doing it (at $3.00 a gallon gas) so it can't really be dead.

do some research before you post some bullshit like that...besides your interpretation of what metal is all about IS based on the radio i'm sure, and bands like System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold, and on and on........you're to young, dumb, and full of cum to be talking about things you obviously know nothing about...

Isn't that the way with any genre? :) I agree. Don't care what they play on the radio/MTV... it's all watered down BS anyway, designed not to get people like Ashcroft's panties undone.

NO DUDE! the 80s SUCKED for music. There was good stuff, sure, and some of it was even available for the average person to get a hold of, but for the most part radio, MTV, etc blew huge loads.

Metallica and most of the really good metals bands aside, intersting music in the 80s (well let's be honest, just about any time) was not somehtign that everyone could point to and say "our generation digs good tunes". For raw, good music of the 80s, i was listening to the punk/hardcore/thrash bands that are "classic" now. Look at the peoiple who wrote the tunes for the 5.98 ep for instance. Misfits, cramps, minor threat, SOD, minor threat (and later fugazio of course), COC, suicidal tendancies, motorhead, cramps, slayer, testament, pantera, hell- murphy's law, stickly little fingers, dwarves, all that stuff. It was very rough and original and had some degree of heart. The punk bands would get the asses kicked half the time they showed up for a gig, now they get god damn comericials.

Anyway the one import thing here is that the best stuff out there is almost never what the record and soda companies feed you, it is happening somewhere else where people are pouring their hearts into it and protecting it voilently from all that bullshit.

Anyway that was totally irrelevant.

How can you say Nirvana killed metal? Hell they were more metal than all the glam metal bands put together. I'm not saying they were a metal band, but they had some heavily distorted guitar, a wicked drummer, and a singer that could really scream.

Nevermind and Incesticide were not very heavy but a lot of songs on Bleach (their first album) and In Utero (their last album) were pretty heavy.

So what do I think set metal back (nothing killed it)? Glam Metal, and Nu-metal crap like Limp Bizkit.

If anything killed metal (not that I think it's dead) it's attitudes like above. I'm not sure about you, but I wouldn't presume to tell someone what their opinions are based on without asking them first. When you assumptions become fact, repost and we'll move on from there.

P.S. At 23, I don't quite think you're qualified enough to tell anyone else that they are too young for anything. Not that I'm much older, but I'm not the egotistical, "my metal is better than your metal", elitist pretending to know the who, what, when, why and how's of the metal movement. ;)

Oh, and anyone with a satellite radio, cable television or the internet knows about and listens to the above and then some. Noone cares that you listen to them. Nor is anyone impressed that you've jumped on the bandwagon with the other ten million angst-laden sociopaths who seem to think that dropping names of good bands earns them a noteworthy reputation.

Once again, we must blame Black Sabbath for the demise of metal. Ozzie just had to come out and show us all what a dork he really is, and how we all will end up if we don't stop. Satan's sweet revenge, thanks Sharon.

creamy apples...i'm sorry if I came off elitist, because I am not...

I don't presume to know everything...but I do have a glimpse into what metal is all about since I have been touring since I was 16...

I wasn't name-dropping, just giving props to good friends...

let me boil metal down to two words for you...

FUCK OFF

My point exactly, kudos Sir.

Blue your no true metal head, metal heads are friendly and kind. They show love towards one another in the happy and friendly metal community

If anything, I think Metal is even leaner and meaner now than ever. You needed your crap bands (Nelson) to know what to avoid, and you needed your huge competition (grunge, rap rock) to keep you on your toes. What's left is the Real Deal. Unlike Jazz, whose heyday is undeniably over, Metal still has a vibrant future.
