That's why I bought 1...
I don't need anymore preamps (God forbid...), just some more I/O for extrenal effects loops in Cubase....... My Delta 44 only gave me 1 more stereo external I/O.

The spdif will be good with my Lexicon mx200..... I also like that it goes neatly in my rack....

The 1010 is a great option for a lot of folks that don't need "all in one" solutions....

yeah I have a 1010 that i run with two of the old 410 PCIs without breakout boxes. I'm hoping to replace both of them with another two 1010s. At today's prices I'd be crazy not to.

Saying that, I'll probably keep one of the 410s in for sending effects busses back out of cubase to the board

Are you guys refering to a price drop in the 1010? Damn if I see one. I paid $400 two years ago, and I still can't find it any cheaper.

When the 1010 hit the shops in the UK here in 1999 I paid £499.95.......that's $876 at todays exchange rate. That price has dropped by £200 to £299 and I expect it will drop again.

There's always the option to send money to a "friend" in america who can buy me one and send it through customs as a "gift" with a low value on it, then buy the UK power supply direct from M-Audio. Last time I checked that was still working out way cheaper than buying here in the UK.

My guess is M-Audio will introduce something new to us very soon and the price will drop again....then I'll pounce :D

Well your PCI has a faster bus than Fire wire for one thing. PCI will not go away anytime soon. Look at ISA that would just not go away. but its gone now though. PCI is slowly replacing AGP at the moment. Correct me if I’m wrong but have you seen any PCI-x audio interfaces? and when they come out I’m sure they will be very expensive. Even firewire has a newer faster interface. The current one can reach up to like 420MB/s the newer on goes almost twice as fast. there will always be newer and better interfaces. So don’t let the "PCI is dead" myth persuade you to stay away from it. just thought I'd let you know.

I'd go the Presonus. But only because I have its little brother, the Firebox and I rate it well. I think they have the same preamps or something.

If I had to make this choice it probably would be the 1804 because it has the adat interface. While the midi options would be almost useless to me, the adat provision would edge out the others. If adat wasn't needed then the next choice would be the Presonus unit as from what I hear the preamps are better than the Tascams.

You can use 3 Firepods in a daisy chain

I'd go with the Firepod if expandability is not an issue

The Firepod can be daisy chained with up to 3 for a total of 24 inputs. So it is expandable.

I have been looking at the new athlon chips and asus motherboards. They all seem to still have at least one pci slot. Mac users are not so fortunate. I understand mac is all pcix. Like everything else seems to be we get the tech for the video gamers and video enthusiasts first and use it for audio.Im not complaining mind you. Anything that will run detailed video will have no problem with intense audio.
