Henri Devil,

How the hell are you? Get it.... "hell"....Henri Devill. Please say you got it.

I can't beleive you found a DCC deck out there for sale. Mine was a Radio Shock model. The damn thing lasted way too long. Get it "damn"......Henri Devill.

I have been waiting for Death of a DCC deck, as an excuse to step into the modern age of multi track recording.

I am somewhat befudled and bemused by the amount of choices in multitrackdom.

I was thinking today that since I am down to two tracks, that I would actually have to use my friends here at home rec to bounce tracks, and add parts for me. Now that's Cheap Bastard Productions!!

Tell the guy at the music store that you'll give him forty bucks for the DCC deck, and tell him Cheap Bastard sent you.

Anyway any advice for starting with a clean slate, on recording is greatly appreciated.

Should I go with hard drive in a stand alone would be my first question. Best bang for the buck? You know me!! Should I wait, is something astounding just around the corner? Things like that.

GT

BTW: In the back of my mind, I keep thinking, what if a new machine doesn't sound as good as what I was using before. I don't know, I mean maybe Bouncing from DCC to VCR was a good thing? Is this possible?

I just scared the shit out of myself when I did an inventory for insurance purposes. It's almost too embarassing but I thought I would put it up here anyway. The gear belongs to both my son and myself although he see's it all as community property........lol.

Hey Gt..I will look into that DCC for reheasal recording..Look into a Fostex DTM 8 {hard disk/stand alone} it has knobs on the mixer section ...can be had for about 300.00 used ,8 tracks uncompressed 16 bit, simple and cheap !Records 2 tracks analog and 2 tracks digital at a time so four tracks at once...its the cheapest and easiest machine I can think of...Has 8 tape outs and 2 tape ins{analog]and 2 via light pipe..So you can hook it up to a better board if you like later..Ive had two hooked up to a API you can do good work with one ..There are no virtual tracks no internal compressers no effects ect. think of this as a analog machine that is a hard disk instead of tape..Ive also seen Fostex D80s going for about 400.00 but you need a outside board for them they are just the recorder..So for a board you could look into a older Mackie 1604 about 250.00 used..But thats starting to get too expensive..at 650.00 there are so many options! You will get better results with those than bounceing between a VCR and the DCC, I would think{less conversions/generations}...Its a money pit ...LOL..even for us Cheap Guys

Just the ticket

Don,

Thanks for the info, this sounds like it's just what I need.

Awhile back I was looking at a Roland along these lines, I can't remember the model, it was rack mount, I think ther're gone now.

Yeah I like the idea of simplicity, I allways liked the way I could just punch record on my DCC deck, and that was that, I was recording. Seems like the new machines have gotton so complicated.

I also liked the DCC's lack of recording time limit. Some of the new machines seem to only record for a few minutes. What's that about?

I think I allready have all the effects that I need, the Fostex VM-04, I use for vocal proccess, Pod for my guitars. So I just need a machine to do the recording.

You may want to make sure you can find DCC tapes before you buy that DCC deck, they may be scarce. I also think $150.00 is very steep, I would offer him half that, give him your phone number, and let him stew.

I will seriously look into the Fostex DTM-8, sounds like a winner!

How does it link to my computer, just strickly for making mp3's?

Hope you don't mind questions,

GT

Long Wave, the older version the one with the 6 mic pres and the ..not the newer version with the 16 pres and the 4 buss ..I think its called the CR1604...Not a VLZ...

GT ..No prob. on the questions...Hook up I guess..Light pipe..or stereio out to sound card...The one thing that I forgot is that you will most likely have to change the drive out, to a larger one from..540megs{12mins} to a 4.3 gig{2hrs}that way you will have 2 hrs of time to record instead of 12 mins..this change costs approx $75.00..

Don

Wish list:
Epiphone Emperor (sigh)
Oberheim Matrix 1000

Roland Space Echo
a copy of the Beach Boys SMILE bootlegs......sob!

Camus,Hows that ML16?..cost ,sound ect...I've got the ML19 and I dig the sound of it..16 is fig 8 ..right..

Don

I got the ML16 at about 500 bucks off Ebay. I haven't had the chance to put it up against another ribbon, but it sounds real sweet to my ears. If you're a big fan of the Blue Note / Rudy Van Gelder jazz guitar sound, then it's a great mic to put up in front of your amp. Yeah it's a figure eight, too bad the specs and the little booklet it came with are in Russian!! Those commies didn't make half-bad microphones did they....

Thats a excellent price! I think I saw the ML16 going for something like 1300.00 somewere..cant remember were though..Might have been Mercinary Audio. They also have a new ribbon that I've seen around ML51 I think..Gotta love the Russian ribbons pretty smooth sounding!Good luck with it..
