Ok i am just curious so here is a poll just to find out :D

This is a multiple choice poll.

Keith

WEBCOR, Inc. CHICAGO, ILL., USA
...non of the above that is.
Happy New Year :D

Out of curiosity, why did you list Revox and Studer as separate choices? I can't decide which to choose :(

**EDIT**
Since no-one has voted for Studer yet you might want to turn them into Fostex, if it's possible to edit the poll on this board :D

umm i think once a poll has been submitted i will be unable to edit it.

The reason why Revox and Studer are seperate is because Revox produce different machines to Studer. :D

Keith

If you want...

Make a list of the choices you want and i can start a new poll with the options you suggest. :D

Keith

Quite predictably,...

 ;) I'll stick with Tascam!

It's a good poll, but I think we better start this again. :D

AMPEX
Studer/Revox
Sony/MCI
Otari
Tandberg
TEAC/Tascam
Fostex
Studiomaster
3M
Scully

What else could we have?

i dont remeber studiomaster making one but if ya wanna be obscure you could include webcor and stephens

Assuming Stephens will be added, the poll could also include:

Nagra
Telefunken
EMI

But I would still vote for 3M/Mincom.

Cheers,

Otto

Here's a few more pro manufacturers:

Brenell (mini-8 - the first 'portable' 1" 8-track machine)
Soundcraft/Saturn
ITAM (seem to have invented the 1/2" 8-track and 1" 16-track formats)
Lyrec (made 2" 24-track machines, also the immensely popular FRED editor)
UHER (the Report 4000 machines beloved of the BBC)

Nice :D

I am after an Uher Portable machine :D
seen a few on ebay, so maybe my luck will chnage :D

Not just my favourite, the mighty Nagra III, first made in 1957. The first truly portable machine able to make recordings equal to the best mains powered machines. A little ripper.

Tim

I liked the really small Nagra (The almost Pocket sized one).

But one thing i was told that it used an unusual tape width dunno if it is true or not.

Would love to get hold of one :D

Any portable machine suits me as long as it has 2 or more speeds and good reel size support.

I didn't either back in the day. I completely missed that... never even saw any ads. It was only in the last year or so that I learned they had once had a multi-track or two. I happened upon some pics on a reel-to-reel site (the link is around here somewhere), and I thought, "What the heck is this?"

These polls are kinda fun, eh? They help us get a feel for the diversity of backgrounds on the forum.

:)

pioneer, akai, sony, panasonic, technics, dennon, aiwa, toshiba, sharp - all had their takes :D .
Hey, - RCA! don't forget Radio Corporation of America, Victor may get pissed - :D
Wiking, roberts/akai , crown - (I WANT one of those!), realistic, Lafayette (monufactured where????,.. by who?, under what?)
the, there was Wilcox-Gay Recordioso or something like that - Special-Audio-Visual-Equipment Co. in Minneapolis..huh

so, what are we picking? A brand, a title, a model, or a manufacturer (as stated in the title of the thread) ?

My fav as we speak is Webcor in Chicago, because it has manufactured a lots of excellent and well-hidden GOODs for me I can use. :D
My hats off, Chicago. Let's hear it again, Frank
(can you recognize the gear behind Franks'back ? / ;) )
