pg 58, cause you'd be further along in the book.

Do you mean Shure SM 57 and 58? If so, they're the same except for the windscreen on the 58 which makes it a bit easier on live vocals. The 57 is better for everything else.

Shure actually makes these mics, the pg 57 and pg 58, but they are different than the well known 57 and 58. They cost around $50 and I don't know any thing else about them.

shure performance gear

Philboyd,
the pg 57 and 58 are part of shure's new Performance gear line. I don't know all of the technical aspects but they are supposed to be versions of the normal shure line at a lower cost. I guess kind of like the Beta is the higher version of the shure mics.
EpiSGpl8r, i haven't used any of the performance gear stuff but I would assume that they are set up just like the normal 57 and 58 and just like Philboyd said, the only difference is the windscreen on the 58. So if your getting one for instruments go with the 57 or if your doing mainly vocals get the 58. (or if you do alot of both get the 58 and just remove the windscreen when your not doing vocals)
I could be way off but if you have the extra 30 or so bucks i would go ahead and get a normal 57 or 58. Believe me you can't go wrong with these mics. hope that all helps

If you go to ebay or musicgoround.com, you can get real 57s and 58s for the same price as the pg 57s and pg 58s go for new. The 57s and 58s are so ubiquitous, there's no reason why you couldn't find decent ones for $50 + shipping.

crap and crappier

j/k.......well kinda............i would be surprised if a shure mic that was that cheap was any good.
