I am fully willing to except that. But when I plug a mic into the Davisound and record a sample, then plug a mic into the Roland and record the same thing. I can't really hear a difference.

BUT....

I'll tell ya what. I am going to record two samples.....maybe more......

Ya.....thats what I'll do.

I am going to record my Martin D41 with my AKG (shut up, I get it, its a shitty mic and blablalba) and do one take into the Roland and one into the Davisound.

Then I will do one with my Tele into my SuperReverb and into the Davisound and one into the Roland and place them on the net at 320kbs. I'll do it in the Rack forum later today when the house quiets down.

You have to make sure you are bypassing your pre-amp in your roland. Do you have inserts? Line inputs go through your roland's pres and you will defeat the purpose of an outboard pre-amp. It is the #1 most common mistake made. If you know this, then forget what I said above.

If I remember correctly, the debate about whether or not those Rolands were being bypassed was never quite answered.

Secondly, everyone has their own set of ears....what some folks love, others may hate. Let's keep in mind that there are people who actually avoid Neve's like the plague because they hate the buildup....seems crazy, but true. Just because you someone bought a piece of gear based on the words of another and didn't like said piece does NOT make someone a liar and it does NOT mean someone has been duped.

About the Davisound thing...................

I'll try to be of some help. Most people here probably recognize me as one of the 3 or 4 guys that have championed the Davisound stuff around here.....though I know I don't come around as much.

There isn't much out there said to be done with Davisound pres, I'll admit so.....I will be one of those things said to be done with them.

Go here:
http://www.ourdamnwebsite.com/

It's my "band"....it may not be the type of music most of you dig but I played all of the instruments except drums and recorded ALL of it. EVERYTHING you hear went through the Davisound TB-6 except the bass which is split to 2 channels...one going through a SansAmp Bass Driver and the other direct through the Davisound instument pres. Oh wait....I believe things like toms and hat went through a DigiMax.

For the record...I did not mix it, though I helped. I'm afraid I'm not much of a mixer and am short on the gear needed besides so I took it to Tiny Telephone in SF for that job. I worked hard on it...I'm into it. John Golden mastered it.

Hope this helps......

Heylow,

I cannot truely bypass the Roland pres, but it does accept linelevel ins when the trim is a zero. So even though it is going through it, no gain is being added.

I hope you saw my post above....;) Better room got me a little better sound. You should at least take a listen to the two samples in the Rack forum. Its interesting even though its not Truely bypassed and all the other BS that is being tossed around. :)

Hello All,

First-off, I'd like to thank you all for the concern and for even noticing; there's the Eeyore in me.

Between the studio slowly starting to actually take-off and making sure I have a life outside the studio and really enjoying it, I've been extremely busy for quite a few months.

As a matter of fact, as sit here and type this, I have a 10 week (5 weeks premature) old baby sleeping on my chest! No, he's not mine; my cousin's. Plus, we all know that women demand a lot of time... I'm going-on 6 years with my girlfriend. She'll be graduating Sac State in Dec. of next year with a BA in Marketing with a focus on Management. A major change will need to happen at that point!

Bruce, I've even put-off getting back to Orangevale News doing an article on the studio. And Bruce, you're still welcome anytime. Give a call.

Yep, I've been popping my head in at RO and TapeOp when given the chance. I've chosen to do that in order to diversify my recording newsgroup/BSS experiences; meet new people, etc.

As for Outlaws on DaviSound, I accpet your apology. It's true... The monitor setup and the room will determine what you actually hear. Just think what you'd hear or not hear in a pro studio.

Anyhow, ANY & ALL of you are personally invited to come hang out at my studio at ANY time. Give me a call!

And Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I know I have a lot to be thankful for; including all of you here.

Re,

I'm on the staff for Orangevale News, as I do all their computer support and write a computer column for the paper.

A studio article would be a good addition to the paper.

Yeah. A few months ago, I had contacted the Orangevale News about getting pricing for advertising. As always, when I contact a paper about advertising, someone came out to meet with me and checked out the place; which you know is my home; my mom's home to be exact. They said I should not only advertise with them (and I agree), but I myself should also write up an article about how I started the studio and all and they would publish it.

I think I'm a decent writer and if I gave myself one long night or two or three shorter nights, I could come up with something decent. But, never did I give myself the time, nor ever did I get back to Orangevale News. You know, it was one of those; "I should really do that. I don't have the time right now, but I'll try and do next week." And before you know it, literally months have past.

I too think a studio article would be good for the Orangevale News. I should have had my act together on that months ago!
