No matter what, you should definately put up at least another $100--I was going to get the wharfedale's myself (diamond pro 8's, I believe), but I had a difficult time buying monitors I hadn't heard myself, even though I never heard a bad thing about them. Working with that budget, though, check out Samson 65a's. They sound damned good for 300 bucks, and they're active, making it all the better. They have a very punchy sound; the low-end tends to roll off below 100 or so as well, but not too much. Any Sam Ash'll have them--other stores may carry them too, but they're one of Sam Ash's house brands, so I have no idea which stores. By the time you've outgrown those, you'll have enough cash for some real near-fields.
