Well, in the context of giving in to the present maddness of the "loudness wars" your ME is going to need the purest signal to coax every thing up to - .01dbfs. Nobody is really saying keep your RMS super low; just leave the loudness maximizing up to those who have the outboard gear to get it done right. You don't want him spending his time ( and your dime) fixing and repairing stuff that got by you.(" don't try this at home") Software limiters still haven't quite caught up with the racks.
