Is a POD pedal over drive? proccessor over drive? Poor Old Basturd?
And how about a direct box? I know that if one wants to plug direct to a board or recorder it is used, but what dose it do exactly? & if I don't use one to for a bass to Tranor power/mixer/head conection what will happen?

I searched this site but found nothing.

The POD is a amp-modeling guitar processor.... run your guitar into it, and you can choose from a wide variety of digitally-modelled amp and cabinet combinations. It also includes some basic effects (reverb, delay, chorus, trem).

But it's essentially a fancy Direct Box...suitable for recording or live-playing.... (well I'm simplifying a bit but anyways...)

A POD is a large, red kidney-shaped orb.
A DIRECT BOX is a drunk woman with no teeth at 2am. looking
to fuck the first guy who will look at her without puking.

Wow, you searched and found nothing? There must be a dozen mentions of the POD in the last week alone. Oh well...

Anyway, a basic direct box simply raises the guitar signal to line level. It's basically a preamp. Sometimes there are other things added to the circuit, like the Hughes & Kettner Cabinetuator is supposed to cause the guitar signal to respond like it would if it were coming out of a speaker cabinet, or like the POD where there's an army of modeled amp tones, cabinet simulations, and digital effects added to the signal.

Oh my ME-10!

Cool,
Thanks for the answers. You all have been very helpful. I never heard of a POD until I read it on this site. Thanx.

To Chuck: My bad. I did find lots of info on how to use a POD, but not one thread explained what a POD is. I thank you very much for your help.

To Tim: Thanks for the new material. LOL.
