I start by getting a live mix of whatever I'm recording through my analog mixer. Then I run the line out of the mixer to the input of my soundcard. Then record it, then the rest is done in Cubase.

Sounds like you guys know what up!

I'm new to this and I'm using pro tools 6.7 digi 002 rack is there something I can use to get my sound or mix cd quality? plugin or something or is the tools in pro tools all I need?

Heres what I think would be a neet little hybrid system for a small home studio

Presonus Firepod -> DAW -> Presonus Firepod 10 outs -> Soundcraft M12 -> M-Audio 2496 -> Sound Forge -> CD

Total cost -

Presonus Firepod $600.00
Soundcraft M12 $750.00
M-Audio 2496 $100.00
DAW $400.00 (estimate for Sonar or Cubase)
Sound Forge $250.00
Wharfedale 8.2A $275.00 (studio monitors)

Total cost $2375.00

. You can always add some nice outboard pres.

An opportunity for summary?

I have read through this thread and am still left with (somewhat Newbie) questions. What are the reasons/advantages of mixing outside of the sequencer (I use Sonar)? Why not just do everything using Sonar's (or another sequencer's) mixing features? Now I do understand some of the reasons to use a mixing board or other equiptment outside of the computer. But I'm wondering, if one stays soley with software (as I probably will until I pick up a digital mixing interface or somtheing like it), why bother mixing in another program?

16 tracks simultaniously?

16 preamps... I'm pumped. Once I figure the thing out, I should be able to track 16 lines and a live stereo mix at once.

That's what I've been wondering about. :D
Do keep us posted on your new onyx.

The "Wackie Mackie", I like the sound of that. :)

It's all done on my pc in Vegas right now. Money comes in and I am going to upgrade.

If I am still doing this when the money comes in. Life has a funny way of derailing the best laid plans....

For those of you who record on some kind of digital medium, whether it be a DAW or stand alone digital record, who mixes down through an analog console and what kind of console, who mixes in the box, and who mixes in the box and sends it to some kind of tape for the 2-track.

Brandon
I use an MCI 2" 24 track recorder mixed to an A&H GL2200 32 ch desk.

OR A Fostex 2424LV through the same mixer.

I hate mixing in-the-box. The mixes come out terrible.

I don't like it. Maybe you should go into something you're suited for like maybe yard work. How are you with a rake?
