Just another guy, really.
So, I got a project that just sorta grew. Bought some misc. stuff from a dude- I really think he wanted to fund his next hit of crack- and it included a Squier Telecaster neck and several parts. Gathered the other parts and some spares/upgrades, including a MIM Tele body- nice wood. I keep on the lookout for a MIM Tele neck at a nice price (seems the MIM Teles bring about $100 more than the Squiers, so the neck's gotta be less than a c-note) but in the mean time, I am ready to refinish the body.

I am going with nitrocellulose lacquer, and can't decide what color to stain the wood- or if I should stain it, at all. I do know I am going with a translucent finish, don't want to hide this pretty wood under opaque paint. But, what color?

I've still got plenty of red stain from the CB700 drum refinish project, it's a bright-ish red that not too garish. Butterscotch/Blonde/natural seems to be most common colors, and do look good to me (completely natural, not so much as the others.) I did a search on eBay and found several colors- the survey includes all the ones that I think would work as STAINS rather than paint. I've excluded bursts because I don't feel like I am ready to attempt a burst finish. I might just go with the color I like, but as I play lefty, and this is a wrongy (oops, I mean righty) guitar, it will eventually be going to someone else.

What say you, HR community?

I'm partial to natural myself....and if you have to use color, I'd probably go with a lighter finish, so you can see the wood better.

Seafoam green (sometimes called surf green). Especially if there's a chance I'll be buying it later. :D

Turquoise or natural. What kind of fretboard? I think some colors go better with maple, and others with rosewood. Being a Squire, I doubt if it's ebony. :D

BTW, I've got a couple of Squire Tele's that the necks are absolutely great on. Wouldn't trade them for any Fender neck.

If I didn't already have a pick guard, MOTS would be given serious consideration!

....And swirl paint jobs are quite easy to do. Plenty of youtube videos on it. Basically, you need a big bucket or tub filled with warm water, a box of borax, and some oil based humbroil paint. Just avoid the pink and green Steve Vai gay colors.
