Do you really think the Perfect Circle CD is a good reference? To me it sounds way to scooped out, and doesnt seem to have everything it needs. Although I like the album alot, I can't seem to get over what seems like a less than standard production. They recorded it themselves using ProTools. ALthough I think it DOES sound good, it just doesnt sound as good as most major releases do. Just my opinion though, we all have them... I've thought about trying to remaster it myself and see if I can get it more to my liking.

Pop/Rock = Rob D's song Clubbed To Death
Hardcore = well, first of all, limp bizkit isn't hard core, neither is pod, a great mixed cd is any cd by Cradle Of Filth.......get any of there songs, brilliant song writing and recorded very nicely
Punk = Pennywise's Straight Ahead or Full Circle (2 great cd's)
Ska = Suicide Machine's Desturction Of Definition
Metal = hmm......i'd have to say Tool's Enema
stuff that would be amazing in my mind period, I won't put in a category cause i'm so obsessed is anything
by Trent Reznor (nine inch nails) (including new cd Fragile)
and especially: Finger Eleven
they have 2 cd's out, Tip, and The Greyest Of Blue Skies....both have best songwriting, drums, vocalist, guitarist, bassist, its all just so amazing
and for fusion check out Dream Theater.

"Puzzle" by Dada is an engineering masterpiece!
Perfect.
Ken Scott produced this CD (Dada'a first) and it's just plain awesome!
I'd also have to give props to the guy who mixed Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of The Moon" album.

eq trick
hey aja is great as well as breakfast in america.(supertramp)
but try this , record connie chung and if the bass is up just a little high her voice will start to sound all nasel like. if the treble is high she will sound really thin.
this is a good reference for getting eq right.
good luck with the experiment its good for calibrating subwoofers as well. by the way she is not the lead singer for wang chung.

If your looking for something more recent by they guy who did "Dark Side of the Moon" try the CD "Try Anything Once."
I think Joe Gastwirt did an excellent job on most of the other Yes stuff he remastered, most are noticably better than the original. Speaking of Yes, I've always liked Eddie Offord's work, he seemed to have a knack for making it possible to hear all the instruments in some of the denser tracks by Yes and ELP. "Tales from Topographic Oceans" is a good example.

I forgot to mention Supertramp's "Crime of The Century".... also a Ken Scott production. It's another top-notch recording.

I also find Pink Floyd usually have great mixes. I like “Momentary Lapse of Reason” a lot for that.
For live, I think Peter Gabriel’s Secret World is an amazing mix.
I wonder, though, how much one’s opinion on a mix may be biased by the opinion of the song in a whole. I know my judgment is certainly tainted since I’m not a pro mixer.
