What can I do about this.

Just started using cubase and I've run into the first of many problems. I tried to record a guitar track and then lay down some vocals. Well the only problem is that are outa sync. I don't know if it is my crappy sound card or if its something I am doing. My card is a sound blaster 128. I am getting a new computer in a couple of months so if it is the sound card is there anything I can do about it to make the 2 track sync up?
Thanks!!!

A couple of things could be happening...

1. Get a better soundcard.

2. In the track inspector you can adjust the delay of each track in order to sync them.

3. In the audio editor window you can set the snap point and move the file so that it syncs with the other track.

4. You're probably experiencing the soundcards latency while you record. You may be "direct monitoring" the 2nd track while listening to the 1st track. What's happening is once you've heard the previously recorded material and trying to lay down the next tract the original point in time on the first track has passed.

me too unfortunately

i think this is the same thing that's happening to me.

i'm using a Presonus Firestation with a laptop:

recording an acoustic guitar with one mic set up and going directly into the firestation XLR and monitoring with my headphones plugged into the firestation. it sounds like there's a short delay, even when i'm not recording -- ie setting levels etc -- it sounds like there's a slapback on the guitar.

it's ok recording the first track because the click is pretty freaking loud, and obscures the delay, but trying to add tracks on top of that is driving me nuts...

so this is the dreaded "latency" issue i've heard about?

Hey you with the presonus. Turn off the monitoring of the track you are recording in cubase. That way you only hear the track you are recording from the presonus mixer instead of through the presonus mixer and the playback from cubase. Trust me it works had the same issue.

thanks!

thanks randy --

two questions:

-- is it going to be easy to figure out how to turn off the monitoring as you suggest (i don't have the program open right now)

-- how has your experience with the presonus & cubase combo been in general? it's my first real foray into computer recording...

thanks!

lilcapn and big20oz - if you're using Cubase SX go to Devices/Device Setup and click on VST Multitrack. From there unclick Direct Monitoring.

If you're using VST go to Options/Audio Setup/System then make sure Direct Monitoring is not selected under the Monitoring section.

Hope that helps. I had the same issue with VST but it's never been a problem with SX.
