Reel deep thoughts...
What are the specs on Scotch "Classic"?

I know its a 1mil tape, but what's the output type? "+3"? Back-coated?

I'm too lazy to look at Beck's awesome sticky-shed "sticky"...is Scotch Classic a sticky-prone tape?

I recently picked up 15 reels of 1/4" Scotch 206...actually, I was only interested in empty reels, as I had a bunch of pancakes I wanted to load up....but this guy had lots of sound FX recorded on his Scotch 206 reels...so a bought them as-is, figuring I could transfer some of the sound FX if they were good.

I never got past the first reel...the sound FX were not the well recorded, but the tape was dropping pooh all over my pristine Otari 2-track, so I promptly tossed all the tape, and just kept the empty reels.

This stuff had to be from the 80s...very tacky/sticky, though "playable"...but I wasn't about to go through 15 reels of it and muck up my deck.

From its magnetic properties (such as saturation fluxivity of 1440 nWb/m), it must be a +3 tape, but it's also lumped in there with 3M 226, 227, 806, 807, 808 and 809 as a "classic sticky shed" tape. Stay far away!

Cheers,

Otto

Yeah, it's a big time sticky-shed offender... probably all you need to know. :)
