what are the best near-field active studio monitors for 2-300$?

Does this apply in the $600-$1000 price range Gidge or would one go active?
 
no, when you get in that price range, you can afford actives.....at $300 its hard to find ANY pair of actives, much less a good pair of actives......

active monitors, especially bi-amped, are the way to go...just all around better sounding.....of course this is only if your budget allows, which isnt the case for this poster...

i have given an answer in the best interect of this particular poster...not what is best for me...not what is best for you...what is best for him based on his budget/needs......
 
thanks for all the responses..didn't expect such a wide variety of emotion expressed in this post, but can't expect any less i guess. thought it was a pretty simple question...
