What are the best monitors???

The event 20/20's are supposed to be pretty good, but I don't think you'll be happy pairing them to a $100 amp... you need the whole package.

I would see what the 20/20bas is going for - that's a great system apparently (it was out of my price range and it may be out of yours, though)

I went with a Yorkville CR5 amp (you'd probably be just as happy with the SR300 - I went on a midnight madness sale at my music shop and got the CR5 for a bit less then the SR300 would have been (CR5 is 250 watts per channel, SR300 is 125...) with the Yorkville YSM-1 speakers and they sound gorgeous together. Of course, my amp can pop my speakers like a paper bag, but I just don't do that :)

But I guess my point is that I paid more for a "studio reference" class amp then I did for the monitors... I think it was $500 for the SR300 and $130 for each YSM-1... so that's $760 (all prices canadian), which is about $480 USD...

which is about your budget. For that, you'll get a nice nearfield system which is designed to go together. Getting active monitors is also an option - the amps with those are generally paired perfectly with the speakers and you get active crossovers. I didn't do that, mostly cuz I wanted to be able to use the amp as a utility amp as well.... I'm very happy with my purchases...

I would venture to say that at that price
range..they will all be pretty close...whats
more important is that you are looking
for something to use as a Reference to
create your mixes.

This means listening to material that you
are trying to duplicate. This will be your
reference. And the more you do that
your mixes have to be successful.

Just remember that most of that stuff
is compressed .( i could say all and be safe
i suppose)

So pick the ones that look best in the
studio or take up the less room. And
work the tool and dont let the tool work
you.

Of course I would recommend the HR824's
they are so awesome!

I hope this helps Jules!!

'Kay, I'll tell Ya what I did, I got me a pair of... Event 20/20 plus a MAM PA 100W Ampie. Sounds awsome, no doubt, got 'em lil' off-priced, got everything for about $500. It's not the $400 I tried to do but I think it's worth to go for lil' more!
So thanks a lot helping me in my decision a lil' bit, sorry for botherin' Ya :) CU in the next forum (eh, probably what's the best compressor, that's the next thing I need :))
Thanks
Jules
