The event 20/20's are supposed to be pretty good, but I don't think you'll be happy pairing them to a $100 amp... you need the whole package.
I would see what the 20/20bas is going for - that's a great system apparently (it was out of my price range and it may be out of yours, though)
I went with a Yorkville CR5 amp (you'd probably be just as happy with the SR300 - I went on a midnight madness sale at my music shop and got the CR5 for a bit less then the SR300 would have been (CR5 is 250 watts per channel, SR300 is 125...) with the Yorkville YSM-1 speakers and they sound gorgeous together. Of course, my amp can pop my speakers like a paper bag, but I just don't do that
But I guess my point is that I paid more for a "studio reference" class amp then I did for the monitors... I think it was $500 for the SR300 and $130 for each YSM-1... so that's $760 (all prices canadian), which is about $480 USD...
which is about your budget. For that, you'll get a nice nearfield system which is designed to go together. Getting active monitors is also an option - the amps with those are generally paired perfectly with the speakers and you get active crossovers. I didn't do that, mostly cuz I wanted to be able to use the amp as a utility amp as well.... I'm very happy with my purchases...
