I have a logitech microphone and it's horrible at playing music so what type of microphone at 20 $ is good at playing music. thanks in advance Brandon

Microphones don't play anything. Not sure what you're looking for.

brandon,

What's your setup. Are you plugging your logitech directly into your computer? There are good mics for $20 but there aren't good recording setups for $20. The mic is only one part of the equation.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

Yes harry I -plug it directly into the laptop and just put it near the speakers and my viewers say it's horibble

check your line level input on the computer. you might have it set too high and move the mic away from the speakers because it can cause feedback not only to you but your viewers will hear it as well.

Well yeah, speakers PLAY music. Mics convert what it hears into a signal that can be recorded. Although when you use both at the same time in proximity, you get feedback.

At one time I used a pair of over the ear cans as a mic. Sony MDR V600's or something like that. It only works that way because of the PIP (plug-in power) provided by my laptop. With quirks of course. Like a high noise floor and only the Left ear muff picked up a signal. Although probably because my laptops mic port is mono, not stereo. Not $20 though as those cans cost $100 new-ish. But they could play music if you swapped ports from mic in to headphone out.

In short there really isn't any decent $20 solution. The best you could hope for is a Zoom H1 for $100-ish. Otherwise you've already made too many compromises to not always come up disappointed with the result.

Thank you for the feed back I will try lowering the volume. But the only way for me to get the music on the show is by puting it near the speaker i don't have anything but a laptop and microphone.

Brandon,

Ok, I think I understand. You're doing a live podcast and the mic is fine when you're speaking. But you want to add music. So you play it through your computer speaker and try to pick it up with your mic.

Is this what's happening?

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

Are you recording and streaming live? If not, you can mix audio in audacity (or sox) (or ....). And swap audio tracks with the video (or audio only) podcast.

$ audacity main_audio.wav
File -> Import -> Audio -> other file
do some edits, adjust gain, whatever...
Edit -> Select -> All
Tracks -> Mix and Render
If things aren't the way you like it, use and abuse Edit -> Undo

One of many ways. What music are you trying to capture? And why use a mic, if it's the computer playing it? There are ways to record the soundcards output without using a mic. Or just copy the files from the browsers cache. (about:cache). Many means to an end.

If you need something more realtime, that's what a mixer is for. CD player on one input pair, mic(s) on the other, use the sliders / knobs to favor the subject of importance. CD player being more of a generic term for any media playing device with line level output(s). An extra layer of D->A and A->D conversion in there, but such is realtime "performance".

Well I'm live streaming yes and harry thats what is happening yes. I will do whatever it takes.

brandon,

You can feed your CD player into your line in and use your software mixer to fade the music in and out.

If the music is already on your computer there's probably a way to feed it into your stream directly too. The way this is usually done in radio broadcasting is the DJ uses headphones to monitor the music and turns the speakers all the way down. That way the music doesn't get into his voice mic.

Thanks,
