Thanks gibs,
I'm doin the best I can captain. Damn it takes them a long time to just change the tune so it can download. I changed a bunch this early this morning. I guess they need to listen to it first or something.
Yes, it was a blast. A couple other songs were OK but this one seemed to be our best one. He's a cook so he brought steak, lobster, lamb, salmon. Damn good grilling. We just ate a bunch and recorded for a couple of days. I can't wait to do it again. Thanks again.

Here's a song that a friend and I did a couple of weeks ago. Its called A Dog named Jim. We like to use the song writing technique of first, record a drum track, and then pick names of instruments out of a hat to see who goes next. Then we get like, 15 minutes to come up with the next track. It's a pretty fun way of writing, and can get a person out of that writers block mode I think. I also just use one vocal track instead of 4 or 8. Easier to edit the vocals that way. Here it is if anyone would like to listen. www.mp3.com/ndwk
Also, I ran the guitar tracks back on Lotus leaves and victories through my mixer and used my POD as an aux send/return and also the lexicon to try and get a little different sound on some of the other guitar parts that where previously recorded the same. I hope it worked alright, I can tell a slight difference I think, but not much. However, I am afraid that it made more noise, but my ear waxed ears can't tell. But it was interesting using the POD this way. This is at: www.mp3.com/rtf
Thanks

ps. I'm trying to figure out all of the properties and what they do on those webpages, so hopefully they will be able to be downloaded instead of just the lo and hi fi properties that mp3.com has. Its only been a week there for me, but I did change them to downloading options this morning if you want to hear them better. Hopefully they will be that way if you visit.

Dog Named Jim is so COOL...I loved it...this is a good collaboration and y'all need to do more...unusual writing technique and it WORKED....I loved the sound...wanna download it to keep instead of just stream...awright, awright, I'm gushing, aren't I.....well screw it I LOVE THIS SONG...gibs

Bobbo,

The song was very cool; sounded like one of Phish's more poppy tunes. Actually, I read that they kinda have the same composition technique that you were describing, so maybe that has something to do with it.

So what kinda drum machine were you using there? It sounded pretty good (at least in lo-fi; I'll download the song when your changes go through).

Thanks 37point5,
The other fella brought some of his equipment with and he had a Dr Groove I think its called. I'm sure you guys know what I am talking about, I think thats what its called. I use an alesis sr-16, and thought his had quite a lot more stuff to it. We just found a beat we liked, then recorded 4 or 8 or whatever measures, then tried to find another beat close to it somewhat, and recorded that on the next track, and then mixed down all the tracks into one stereo track. Then whoever had rythym guitar would usually go next, etc.
I'm really sorry they haven't changed the songs to be downloaded yet. I feel like a moroon (as bugs bunny used to say) posting this and then not having them updated so you could get the best sound. I thought it would change right away, but I guess thats what I get for fooling around with all the options they give ya. I just don't understand what they all mean, but I'll let you folks know when they come up downloadable. Thanks.

Ok, the songs are now downloadable. I woke up this morning and they had them back to normal at mp3.com. So they can now be listened to with some better sound quality. Thanks for your patience, now I just need to work on mine. hehe

Bobbo.... GREAT STUFF!!!

Considering the method in which this was written I though it was remarkably cohesive. Although I don't think I like it quite as much as your previous efforts - probably because of stylistic differences between this and your previous posts - I think it's turned out really good for only a few days "work".... although I hardly call eating a bunch of steak and lobster work :D

WOOF WOOF

Keep these cool tracks of yours coming.

I liked this tune Bobbo, I liked it a lot. I couldn't make out the lyrics that much, but the tune is cool. That sounds like a fun way to work. Do you guys usually have this sort of success doing things this way?

Nice song. They are like a mix between Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones.

Thank you guys for the comments. We played together in some bands off and on for about 7 years, him the guitarist and me on bass, so we're already kind of used to writing together and playing, so that helps. After our last band about 5 years ago, we never really got together much to play. Recently though, we've been doing this stuff with this method and have just been having fun with it. This was the first time with my computer setup, and man was he happy with it. Now he wants to record with a computer setup. Sometimes the songs turn out pretty bad, but sometimes they seem to work out OK. We'll post more to that site as we go on, whenever we can get together. Its just really a nice change to do things that way, eating well, and knowing that when its time for him to go back home, we'll for sure have 3 or 4 songs complete. So, hopefully we'll be doing some more soon. Thanks a lot for the encouragement.
