I believe thier is a quantum shift underfoot, and the destruction of the music industry that has happened over the past fifty years by the record labels is coming to an end. Why do you think the RIAA is so scared? Know, I know this flys in the face of many peoples beliefs on here. And, I am NOT saying music should be free or any crap like that, but I do believe the record companies are making a killing when most true artists aren't seeing shit. Hopefully, very soon, small studios with small "artists" will be able to produce superior work, distribbute it soley in the digital domain, charge a nominal fee ($2-3 per album) and entirely cut out the record companies. It will take some time, but I do believe it will happen. Most young people I know, have already stopped with the "major label drivel", they are always on the lokout for an underground band. Music is art - I think the recording industry for the most part has forgotten that.
Really, all it would take is for a few MAJOR acts to skip their next record deal, pay for their own studio time, and make a BIG DEAL about realeasing their next album for download on their website for $5 at full CD specs. (16/44.1).
