I don't dislike the Pumpkins, but I think Billy Corgans... well anyway lets not get into an argument :) I'm more Nirvana, Radiohead, Ben Folds Five, Coldplay, Aqualung generally depressing stuff :D

I will force myself to have another listen to their album

Basically, for the guitar, straight through into the computer Line-In and recorded straight into cakewalk. For the mic, pretty much the same, straight in the Line-in and into cakewalk. For the MIDI I use a keyboard. Sorted :)
I think in terms of priorities, a decent soundcard will make the biggest difference in your overall sound. It doesn't matter if you're singing through a Neumann U87 microphone if the soundcard can't capture it. You have to spend a few hundred (in my amateur opinion), but it's the only way to start telling if you're recording correctly in the first place. I banged my head up against the wall a lot before I found this out.

Then mic the acoustic, and you'll be a golden recording God, lol.

Let moi find out what card I have, and you can burn it verbally infront of me. Does it really make that much difference what card you have?

Anyway for those of you who care, lyrics:

When I'm alone amongst the waves,
no one for miles no one to save,
The empty pain for miles around,
Fathoms below no sight of ground.
No sight of ground.

Don't put the waves above my mind,
Don't go and leave me behind.

I'm fascinated by the fear,
of whats below and what is near,
I cannot see what must be there,
what will it be it makes me scared.

Don't put the waves above my mind,
Don't go and leave me behind.

Don't you want to come and save me please?
I don't know how long I'll last this sea,
Can't you come now and save me?

Don't put the waves above my mind,
Don't go and leave me behind.

Yes they are dark no I'm not depressed I'm a happy chipmunk :)

Enjoy

If you're really interested, you can listen to the difference on 2 of my tunes that have similar instrumentation, bpm, etc... (warning, kinda' country)

"OUR SONG"

"JULIET (no eq)"

I looked through my session list, and due to the fact that I recently loaned out some of my crap to a friend (and a recent computer meltdown), these 2 songs were recorded with identical equipment...except for the sound card.

If they both sound equally crappy, then we will have BOTH learned something, lol.

lol i'll have a listen one moment :)

*waits*

*waits some more*

*starts watching TV....*

*eats a horse*

*Done*

Our song sounds kinda funky, very country, in a good way, reminds me of.... country music. lol

Juliet is good but I'm not sure yet because I haven't actually listened, give it a while to download and I'll talk some rubbish about the ambience before its done, which I think is really good. 59%.......82%..........86%........73%.......huh?
Right it's done now. Errr yeah I can't tell THAT much difference but it is better.

Speaking strictly on the songwriting...

Generally the music was ok I thought. I liked the strings, and the guitar parts. The melody was ok. The vocals were a little muffled and low so I couldn't hear enough of the words to comment on the lyrics.

I agree with TripleM--liked the music but couldn't understand the lyrics. Musically, I wanted some drums to drop in somewhere. Bring up the vocal, maybe more detail in the pronunciation too.

Try the miced guitar Chris was talking about too. This one is definitely worth polishing up, I think.

Okay, then I wanna' change my answer to "Get Better Monitors," heheheheee...

Don't mind me, I'm just....ummm... an asshole.

Crawdad: Thanks, yeah it was just a kinda idea, it's gonna get good I hope :) The lyrics are probably just pretentious.

chris: I'm having another listen, one sec. I don't know I aint good at telling. I kinda think there's a difference but I can't tell if thats the song or what, you know. :) I guess it's better, but the first one still sounds damn good and a lot better than my stuff :(

Yup ok I see that it's true that it's a difference, but really it's like going from professional to better professional, for me I'm still at the "Are you 3?" stage :)
