how does warmoth works? it seems cool but do they build for u then ship it? just hsip the parts just wondering. its probably too expensvie for me anyway.\

right now ive narrowed diwn to four companies
either a neice epiphone lp copy
an ibanez
an esp
or a s=chetcter

my budget will be around 600 by the end of htis ummer ( i am also purchasing a stack but this is how much i will have left over)

any recommendation sout of the 4 and which model?
i will be looking for a nice heavy distortion sound.

Warmouth is a cool factory in Puyallup, WA, just down the road from me. I've been there a few times and I really like their whole concept. They build everything right on the premises. In fact, they also build parts for many "name brand" guitars there.
They don't build guitars, they only build parts, but you can order all the parts you need to build a complete axe. You have to put it together yourself. If you don't know how to do a basic set-up, you might find it alittle difficult. You will also need to know some basic wiring techniques to wire up your pickups.
However, you do get to put together an axe that is just the way you like it. If you';re a beginner, you probably haven't developed any strong preferences yet anyway. If you want aheavy distorted sound, I'd say go for the Ibanez.
Get a few year's experience under your belt. ONce you know exactly what you like, then think about building something that suits you. Or.... build one now. What the heck.

Hey PK, the above thread is one I started moons ago about Warmoth. Some of the replies I got were worth reading.

Seems to me that a while back in another thread somebody advised me to save my cash and buy a PRS instead. Can't remember who it was, but his point was that the resale value for the PRS would be much better, plus you don't have to deal with the hassle of setting up the guitar from scratch. FWIW, I made the mistake a couple of weeks ago of trying out a PRS in a store in Nashville. I think I'm in serious trouble .

Alright Pete,

If you're still on the new axe kick:

A true ESP is possibly out of your price range. However, you may find one used. I picked up a used MIII for $400 at Music Go Round and a used $2100 Custom for $700 at a guitar shop in DC. I love them both. Music Go Round will usually start dropping the price on an axe once it sits around too long.

If you mean a LTD, I can't comment because I haven't played one extensively.

A decent Ibanez can kick ass. I have a RG550 that I love, but it isn't THAT much thicker in tone than my Hot Rails-equipped Strat.

I've never played or owned an Epi Les Paul. However, the humbuckers, mahogany body, and shorter neck length can really beef up your tone.

im obsessed iwht getting a new axe lopp sorry lol
this would be at the end of the summer,a fter i get my first priority, which would be a tube head and cab. would an amp be able to be used as a cab??

Ps
let me know waht u tink of schecters thanks

If you mean can a combo amp work as a cab, than no not without some re-wiring or a pre-amp out, power amp in type set-up, but if you mean can a combo amp work with seperate cab, then yes, many combos have speakers outs which are probably 8 or 16 ohms which you would plug into the cab and the combo's amp would the drive the speakers in the extension cab. I have actually seen a fender champ 15 or 30 driving a 4x12, with considerable VOLUME. Matt Baard of Brookside did it for a while if you know them.

If you are a beginner builder this would end up messy. The necks are great, but rarely fit into the neck joints properly and need to be worked. Also the frets need to be dressed, etc. They do however make very nice compnents like Aaron said.

I was actually thinking of addressing this earlier. Contrary to what KingstonRock seems to imply, your combo amp can rather easily be used as a speaker cabinet for a head until you get a 4x12...

...ARRRGH. Nobody has a pic of the back of the gfx212, not even Crate in the owner's manual. Thus, I can't determine how the speakers connect to the amp...

Be that as it may. If the speakers in the gfx connect to the amp section with a 1/4" jack, you can super easily use the combo as a cabnet. Simply unplug the speakers from the amp section and plug them into the speaker output of the head (an extension cable may be necessary).

If the speakers of the cab are hard wired to the amp (no unpluggable cable), it's a rather easy process to snip the wires at the middle, add a speaker cable with a 1/4" jack, and run them to another amp.

...Just spoke to a Crate tech, we can't verify this, but we both think the speakers are hard wired. Let me know if you'd like more detailed instructions for using the Crate cab with an external head.

KingstonRock was correct that you can easily connect an external speaker cab to your combo. The gfx212 has an external speaker jack in the front which disables the speakers of the gfx and allows use of an external cab.

Thus, you could get your 4x12 first and run it with your gfx 212 until you can afford a head. However, first using a decent head through the gfx speakers is going to give a bigger improvement in sound.

Can't comment. I've never played Schecter.
