well lets see what everyone has to say which pre gives the most warmth
 
Chandler (EMI) and Neve. Maybe Trident too (not the reissues but the original A range).
 
my homebuilt "bertha" two stages of homemade drive by overdrive tube gain. Complete with a "HOT! Don't Touch" sign. :D
 
I guess if there was such a thing as "warm," and if it weren't a way over-used and overly exploited marketing term used to convey an abstract concept that has no real agreed-upon meaning ...

I'd say of all the mic pres I've listened to, the DW Fearn probably comes about the closest to the idealized "warm" thing you refer to.
 
A preamp that is on fire would be the warmest.

I agree, lots of "hype" around the word "warm".

Many people equate warm with tubes, maybe having a bit of a low/mid bump and somewhat attenuated high end response. Not so in many tube designs anyhow. I've heard solid state preamps that would fit into the typical "warm" camp of sound too.
