I have not been able to record any VST instruments with n-track. As soon as I select vst instrument track from the menu it crashes giving me a message that n-track has caused a fatal exception. Can anybody reccomend a free VSTi that you have used successfully so I can try to troubleshoot?

Hi,
If you look at my post below you can see that I was and am having the same problem. It seems to like to crash most when I Try to play a vsti instrument by clicking the live button. This causes crashed 7 out of 8 times. I don't know anyfixes for it...hopefully flavio will contentrate on fixing all of the bugs instead of adding new features...I'd much rather have a stable piece of software than more piano roll options....

your post did indeed inspire me to post my question, which I have been meaning to ask for a while now. I can't even get a vsti track to start though, forget about the live button. Every time I even move the cursur over 'new vsti track->' it crashes.

n-track crashed on me before, until I figured out it was the blue plugins that were the culprit. Right now I'm trying to use the steinberg VB-1 vsti to create a bass line. I have used it succesfully in fruityloops, but I would like to cut out the middleman and create a bass part directly in n-track.

Any suggestions out there?

mysteron from fxpansion is a free theremin plugin yo can use in ntrack. Simplmy download the .zip and place the .dll file in your vst plugins folder.

I'm having a similar problem with an emagic EVP73 VSTi plugin. I can open it in n-Track, but I can't figure out how to get to make any sounds. I assume I need to be running Live. The only thing I hear is an occasional high pitched chirp. Tried every conceivable midi combination on my controller and in n-Track... nada.

Sometimes, but not always, it locks up or crashes with that "fatal exception" error.

I also tried "wrapping" the plugin in a DX shell and running it in Sonic Foundry Vegas (it doesn't even show up in Acid or Sound Forge), but I get no sound there either.

Am I committing some basic midi blunder?

I inadvertently found a solution to my problem if anyone cares. The problem being that when I tried to record a VSTi instrument by going to track->MIDI->new instrument track, n-track started to search for VSTi instruments and then immediately crashed.

I was playing around last night and I opened a vsti on a blank audio track and played around with it in live mode first. Then when I went to create a new instrument track, for some reason n-track had found all my VSTi's. So then I just went ahead and used piano roll to score out the instrument track and it worked fine.

Hope this helps if anyone has the same problem as me.
