How would u guys rate the vsr-880. I like the fact that it is 8 tracks, but from what i saw on the compay's website, there are no xlr inputs! y? what kind of hard disk recorder would i look at that had 8 tracks, but had xlr inputs... help!

~thanks

I have a VSR and I love it.I think it is designed to be used with a mixer as it has 8 rca ins and outs on the rear panel. It does have two 1/4 balanced inputs on the front panel.I use them to plug in my Audio Buddy preamp when Im recording at home one or two tracks at a time. When I go out to record I have a couple minimixers that I hook up to the rca jacks so I can record eight tracks simultaneously. You could use the front jacks with a couple Impedance transformers(about $13ea)and plug a couple mics in until you get a mixer or preamp.

Yeah. The preamps aren't great. Thus you use an external preamp/mixer. I have a VS880 and use a Mackie for the preamps/phanotm power/XLR inputs.
