-nevermind-

Test drove both of them today. The Korg is ----WOW! No contest. Roland VS2000 is like a toy compared to that beast! BTW, always check things out for yourself- like specs and other facts about equipment and don't rely on the Guitar Center crackpot staff. For some reason, the salesguy was trying for the life of him to get me to buy the VS2000 and I busted him in several outrite lies when I asked him for info comparing the two machines. I didnt correct him, I just knew what I was dealing with and dealt accordingly. So like I said. if you want to compare different things, do some reading and fact finding first, and if your lucky, some of the people on sites like this can help you to avoid pitfalls, if your lucky enough to get a responce....-Anyway, the D16xd is what I will be getting soon enough. If anyone is selling one in the next few weeks or if any good deals are spotted, drop me a line. That is if anyone ever reads my post. Like I said, Im a newbie and i guess I picked a subject that nobody gives a krap about, cause my post is the only post with no reply. I will try come with better game next time I post. But its a lot of fun though. Got some great ideas just browsing around.

Hello,
New guy here- first post. Anybody out there have any insight as to which one of these are the better machine? I plan on replacing my aw16g and VS880 expanded in the next few weeks. Got my eyes open for the right deal. I would even consider the D32xd if a great deal came along... Anyway, I'm greatful for any feedback on the subject..

hey man, i didnt spot your post first time round but you are kinda in the same situation as me. I will be upgrading soon froma 8 track portstudio and was looking at lots of machines inc Yamaha AW16G. Im even teetering on the edge of buying a comp and doing it in the Cubase way but the thing that stops me is I want hands on reliable hardware with faders and cant be bothered to find soundcards, reliable software, learn a whole new medium and have all my outboard fx/mastering gear (about £1000 worth) made redundant overnight. I wanna plug and play!

I was leaning towards a roland VS of some sort... You really prefre the Korg? What tipped the scales for you?

Hi,
What tipped the scales...

KORG D16XD.. 16 tracks playback at 24 bits..

VS2000.. 12 tracks playback at 24 bits..

KORG D16XD.. 8 tracks at 96khz- THATS 96 KHZ!!!

VS2000.. not available.

KORG D16XD.. touchscreen navigation- everyone I spoke to and all reviews claim this machine is very easy to learn.

VS2000.. not as easy- long learning curve.

KORG D16XD.. 8 analog pre's and compressors expandable to 16 on the inputs directly- WITH dedicated KNOBS! (just like the console and tape days)

VS2000.. entails assigning and bussing and inserting digital parameters etc...also its pure digital- not nearly as warm as the korg.

Also, the main monitor outs on the korg are 1/4" phone jack (unbalanced) outs, and on the vs 2000 they are RCA outs.
As far as effects, Im sure the vs has more internal effects available, but as for me, I dont overuse the internal effects. I would rather use external effects for the most part. Also, the korg interface is a lot more designed with old-school recording methods in mind. Meaning its has more of a console-to-tape like interface where the vs is more searching thru parameters type of interface. Plus, 16 tracks- 16 faders. I personally like that alot. I hate A/B'ing thru fader groups. I like to look at the faders and get an immeadiate visual of how things are set.
It just seems to me that the korg is more of a recording monster and the vs is more of a toy- not to mention the korg has a ton more "sex appeal" when you look at it (bonus). You have to see and touch both units before you decide. To me, the korg just seemed to be better built and just "felt" better. Meantime, you should go to zZounds.com* musiciansbuy.com* musiciansfriend.com* and a few other sites and compare user reviews on the two. Also, check ebay for used- you get great deals now and then. I'll be checking there over the next few weeks myself.
Anyway, thanks for being my first responce. GOOD LUCK
let me know what you decide.
peace.. Tony,>

To be honest mate it seems as if i dig the same things you in my machines. I take it I can use my outboard fx units witht he korg? It has effects send/returns? Ive read sound on sound reviews and they seem to like the korg. I was still thinking of the Yamaha AW16G, but just found out thats 16bit only. Although the price is more tempting, why not just save a little higher eh and go for the quality?

At the moment the Korg is winning the race by a good couple of strides...

I just picked up an AW16G about a week ago. I have to tell you, I'm quite impressed with the G. It is a great machine for the money (they run about $600.00 > $700.00 used) with great sound for 16 bit. It is not that bad as far as learning it, you just need to watch the included DVD instructional, than just go feature by feature along with the manual. If your on a budget, the yamaha will serve you well...
I plan to use it for a few weeks until I save for the korg D16xd. I'll sell the G when I get the right price on the xd.
