Gee Mark, I got my tech-support mojo workin' but it just don't work on you...

...er

um...

The neatest solution is to solder a lead - as described above.

Plugging TRS left/right into TRS balanced mono is not a solution - as explained above.

The lead I suggested would help you... erm... in the manner described above. To rephrase and reiterate: it would take the right or left leg of a dual-mono left/right output and feed it unbalanced via 1/4" jack into the mono input of your 0404. It would avoid any hot signal leg being shorted, and avoid a dual-mono signal being superimposed out-of-phase. Thus bringing about effective transmission of the might and majesty of your guitar playing, rather than the sinister and enigmatic silence which gave rise to your initial distress.

LOL Rob! You said first the the cable was a solution, twice actually ;) now you say it is not a solution? I seem to believe there should be a simpler solution than to start soldering, plus I dont have a soldering iron. I'm not a hardcore tech guy. I'm more into making the music and less into how it gets on CD :)

Darn it! Convicted by my own words! Heck, but I might have gotten away with bluffin' that I understand audio: y'all were just that bit too clever for me. I really did think I'd fooled you for a minute back there though...

Your a monster

Hmmmmmm... The amp output is a 1/8 but the keyboard is a 1/4 so I use the same cable but with an adapter. Maybe thats why the keyboard works?

Sorry I didn't see that the amp had 1/8" output.

Yes, I would definitely try getting an adapter for the same cable. :)

What kind of adapter would I need? Do you think if i got a 1/4 to 1/4 cable and put a 1/8 adapter on the end of it to plug in the amp that would fix the issue? I cant use the same cable because the keyboard is a 1/4 jack so i have to use a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter but my amp is 1/8 jack so if im going to use an adapter i would have to get a 1/4 cord and an adapter to convert it to 1/8. Would that fix the issue though?

Yes, I was thinking of an 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. I would try a mono version of that type of adapter. Whether it will fix the issue... only spending $3 on the adapter will tell you, and it's good to have a bunch of adapters like that anyways.

Im using a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter for my keyboard output is 1/4. I cannot use the same adapter and cable on my amp because it is a 1/8 output. Do you think if i used a 1/4 cord with a 1/8 adapter that would fix the issue?

I don't know but I think it's worth the $3 for an adapter to find out. I think there's a reasonable chance it will work.

The way I do it with the jumper cables is the absolute "no mystery" right-in-your face way of absolutely nailing it. But sometimes it's easier to just buy a $3 adapter and at worst you have that adapter for another time. You should have pretty much every common adapter in a studio. :)

I think I figured it out. I have a balanced cable. I dont know much about the tech end but it has to be something with the ring, tip and sleeve because it works when i pull it out a little. I think it's because im using a balanced cable and i need an unbalanced cable. The adapter I have for my piano is unbalanced. I dont know why but I have a feeling this will work.

I think this is what I need.

Can someone tell me why the unbalanced cable which in this case is the 1/4 end is considered "mono"?

Can somone please explain this is in laymans terms?
