Had me going when I first clicked on the link *You have been redirected to Vaginasaurus Rex by Gregor The Terror*

This ranks right up there with the best of them Greg.

To bad Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee aren't around to witness your work. They would have loved it.

Excellent - this is the kind of mix I'd dearly like to emulate. The rhythms are super tight. Is that your new LP?

Yeah...sounds good, but the title makes me laugh.

It sounds like "vagina-sore-is Rx". :D

Prescription for sore p.... never mind.

I like your back ups gerg. How did you do those? I am assuming it is just you done over a few times. Can you enlighten us with your wizardry. Good job as usual.

I get tired of saying that you know!!!

Lol. Thanks dude. I don't think they'd like it, to be honest. Joey was marginally flattered by cheap Ramones imitators, but Johnny and Dee Dee were like whatever. They invented that shit. No one was as good as them. I very rarely try to really ape their sound, but of course their influence lives pretty strongly in me. Hopefully they're looking up at me from hell and at least feel better knowing that their work did not go unnoticed.

BTW - Is that a Shure SM57 your singing into in that live photo?
Yup, usually is. I bring my own mic to gigs, and it's usually a SM57 or a PG57. I never use the house mics. No way. That nasty herpes infested shit aint going anywhere near my pie-hole.

Thanks a lot Ido. Yup, all the LP on this one. Left rhythm channel and leads are through the Marshall head and 4x12 cab with Celestion G12T-75s, the right rhythm is through an Avatar 2x12 with Vintage 30s. Same amp settings for everything, but I used a Tube Screamer boosting the front end for the lead tracks.

Lovin it! I know many of those.....

Sounds great man!
Thanks Jimmy! :)

Lol. I get it. That's my jackassed New Orleans accent I guess poking through. Sometimes people ask me if I'm from New Jersey or something. Thanks for checking it out.

Thanks AB. The backups are just me doing a bunch of tracks. I think there's like 8 backing vocal tracks. I'm afraid there's no wizardy. I think one of the most important things with backing vocals is starting and ending at the same place. Especially with things like heys, ooohs, ahhhhs, and whoahs. If you're gonna do a bunch of them, and you have to if you want a gang kind of sound, you need them to be tight or it just sounds like a mess. Sometimes sounding like a mess is awesome, but generally I don't want any whoahs or ooohs and ahhhhs lasting longer or shorter than the others. They gotta start and end at the same place. And of course, if there's any melody, you gotta be in pitch, or close to it. If it's just shouts or yells, varying your tone in the delivery makes it sound like a bunch of different people. Do a few low and growly, do a few harsh, do a few high pitched. They all blend to sound like a mob. And go easy on the reverb. You'd think you want a bunch to make it sound big, but if you do a lot of tracks you don't need much reverb. It'll sound big on it's own.

Just curious...on this song (or in general)...how loud do you track your guitars?
I don't mean recording level...I mean the amp level.

I take it on this one you used the Marshall rig?

Yup, the Marshall. I record pretty loud. I always have. Before getting this rig I used a bandmates JCM800 and I recorded it really loud too. Even though this head has a master volume, it still needs to be cranking pretty loud to get the power tubes involved. This is a 100w model, and I like it best with the master vol around 6. It will still go louder, but not much. After 6 or 7, it gets really power tubey, and the walls are literally shaking. It's unusable in this room at that volume unless I put the cab out in the hallway - which I sometimes do. But I find that for recording, keeping the master around 6 gets good results. For reference, at a club gig or band practice, this thing will totally overpower a whole band at anything past 5 on the master knob. It's a beast. Way, way too much amp for a drummer that records at home. But I love it!

Nice grill!

I did a show a few weeks ago with an all female band called *The Angry Debutantes* and the lead guitarist had a Marshall JMC900 full stack LOUD isn't the word. But they were very, very good.

I noticed while micing up her Marshall that she had removed the "LL" from all of the Marshall name plates so it would read Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.

Kindafunny.

Lol. Nice.

Celestion is coming out with a new speaker called a Creamback which is supposed to be a Greenback with higher wattage handling capability. I really like Greenbacks, but I'd need another 4x12 to use them as they're only 20-25 watts a piece. With the Creambacks (65 watts) I can get just one and put it in the 2x12 - replacing one of the Vintage 30's. Or I can get two and X pattern them in the 4x12 with the G12T-75s. Either way that would give me three different, classic sounding speakers to mic. That would be awesome.

It sounded real good. Not much I can comment on to improve.

I thought there were some of the harmony vocals that I would probably turn up a coupla db's.

There's a couple of times what one guitar on the left, in transitions, just kind of hangs on a single note. You could probably turn that up a bit.

But other than that, I got nothing.

Snare sounds good, But a little heavier than what you usually do.

Sorry I missed this one. Thanks for checking in.

The snare needs a new head. It's a little dull, not terrible, but it's definitely overdue for a head swap.

Yeah - the different possibilities are always great.

Excellent recording and mix. The bvox are terriffic and the brain wave behind them is excellent too.

This pretty much moves straight to the top of my list of Songs I'll Never Play My Mum.

Most excellent as usual. You've got the good tones, good clarity and everything playing nice together

Thanks dude. Yeah I'd rather my mom not hear this too. :o

Nice rhy gtr sounds. I'd bring up the lead to match your vocal volume, which wouldn't have to be that much.

Also instead of delay repeating "rex, rex, rex" you might consider "vagina, saurus, vagina, saurus, vagina, saurus...." And then the lovely BG vocals could sing the word "rex" at the appropriate time.

...or do nothing...fine as it is, but I like the louder lead breaks...even with the band too ramping up.

yeah... limited audience on this one too. Don't think I could play it in the lobby at the resort I work at!

great job man. no matter how the song came into being. this is what home recording is about. i really respect your playing, recording and mixing chops. take it easy.
