Hi there! I currently own Finale 2003 and Reason 2.5. Reason is definitely great but I find it easier to score my music in Finale sometimes coz I'm "classically trained". Anyhow, after much fiddling, I am able to playback my finale music through Reason with the help of Midi Yoke. The next thing I would like to achieve, is to Midi sync the 2 programs so I can play them at the same time. I followed the manuals of both programs but am still not able to achieve midi sync. According to the Finale manual, "Finale supports MIDI clock signals but does not support SMPTE, MIDI Time Code, or MIDI Machine Control." But I suppose Reason uses MIDI clock, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Can someone point me to the correct direction? Also, please share your experience in using MIDI sync of Reason to link to non-Rewire-compatible softwares (esp. notation programs).

Thank you very much!

You need to make one program the master of, and the other the slave to, the midi clock signal.

In my experience it is possible to run Reason --- especially with the help of Midi yoke --- as a slave to almost any other software program that fully supports midi clock protocol. If, as you imply, Finale is capable of both recieving and sending midi clock then you just need to play around with it some more until you stumble on the answer. This answer may not be exactly what you're looking for, but there are too many factors at work for me to get more specific. If you can't find the answer, post again with your platform, OS specs, program versions (in addition to Reason 2.5) and we'll try again.

Just for clarification, the only real other midi syncronization protocol is Midi Time Code (mtc) because SMPTE is an audio code and Midi Machine Control is for controlling the stop, start, play, record and so on of a midi-savvy sequencer or DAW.
