I'll keep this short and simple.

I have the Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0 but I need more inputs.
Would I be able to use this and the Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0 simultaneously?

I was told that using two interfaces at once can lead to problems with timing. This is why I am skeptical even though the products listed above are essentially the same (Other than more channels/features of course).

I would buy two Firepods and daisy chain them but that is too costly being that the Alesis interface would most likely not sell.

The problem is that your DAW will only use one ASIO device at a time.

Could you use the one mixer to send a mix to two channels on the other? Not optimal but if say half you tracks are drums mix them on the 8 channel and send the mix to the 16.

Correct. ASIO (the low latency drivers you NEED to use) = 1 device driver at one time.

Plus, separate boxes that are not sync'ed together will drift in timing as their individual crystal clocks beat at slightly different rates (no two crystals beat PERFECTLY the same time....)

You need to sell them and buy a bigger interface with more i/o.
