unscrewing a danelectro neck?

i'm looking to have a friend in the u.s. buy me a danelectro 12-string, and mail it to me over in brazil. i'm planning to send it jack-the-ripper-style as neck and body in separate packages to save on shipping and customs taxes. are there any danelectro owners here who have unscrewed danos' necks before? is there any precaution i should take? anything that could prevent me from achieving a perfect setup when i put it together again?

As long as the neck sits flat against the body in the pocket, (the slot for the neck), and the screws are nice and tight after you bolt it back on you should be fine. The problems seem to come from letting the neck lift off the body as you drive the screws, not tightening the screws enough, which lets the neck flex and strips out the threads in the neck, and overtightening, which can strip out the threads also. Make sure it is pressed firmly against the body as you reattach it and off you go. You will probably have to do a pretty complete set-up job, action, intonation, truss rod adjustment, etc. after a trip like that.

When I take the neck off my strat about the only thing I do is not back the screws all the way out of the body, cause even though I'm pretty sure it's bullshit I want to make sure the same screws are in the same holes the same way as original They sure seem to go back in easier that way. That may not be practical for shipping. Just don't overtighten the screws and strip the holes. If you do, fill them in and redrill. Bolt-on necks are pretty forgiving, in my experience.

my main concern is that it might have some kind of caulk to give the neck an angle or something that i might have trouble putting back together. also some bolt-ons are (god only knows why) glued to the body, and i don't want to have to pay $200-300 to get an assembled guitar shipped, especially a $300 guitar.
