Tuba miking...help?

Anyone here have any experience miking one of these? If so, what did you use and where did you place it/them?
 
A LDD if you have one (421, RE20 ,etc.) maybe a foot from the bell pointed not quite toward the edge.

A SDC a few feet away if there's one around.
 
AKG D112. Treat the bell as if it were a bass cab speaker, but back the mic off 1-2 feet. Closer to the center=darker. Closer to the edge=brighter. It's just a big, brass bass cab.-Richie
 
Thanks for the tips. I'll keep them in mind when the pepole come over this saturday.
 
Ha...I clicked on this thread because I thought it said "Tube" miking...it actually says "Tuba" miking. Sorry, I've never recorded a tuba.
 
You'll need a tuba mic preamp rather than solid state. .........sorry.....I couldn't help myself....
