G'day,

A friend of mine wants me to record his band (I'm pretty much their only option :P), so he wanted a demo of a recording from me. I didn't really have anything complete yet, so I covered a song tonight. It's called "True Love" and it's by Phil Wickham.

I'm aware that I'm a noob and that I need lots of help, so any feedback would be appreciated. I have a few concerns, but I think I'll just see what y'all comment on first. Feel free to critique everything, both musicianly and mix/master/etc.-ly.

EDIT:
In case anyone is curious of my setup:
It was all recorded with an M-Audio MobilePre USB.
Acoustic guitar was recorded with an ECM8000 around six inches from the twelfth fret.
Vocals were recorded with the ECM8000 about a foot--maybe a foot and a half--away with a pop filter-like thing in between.
Bass guitar was plugged into the MobilePre.
Electric guitar was also plugged directly into the MobilePre.
Everything is buried under a ton of effects... compressors, EQ, reverb, etc.

I can barely hear your bass? Isn't it tied in completely with the low end of your guitar recording? I think so. So your bass becomes an indiscernible mass. The whole song through I can hear your plectrum raking over the guitar strings, I think it's too pronounced. Other people might like it I suppose and I'm not sure how to get rid of it - maybe record from further away so you catch the tone but not the plectrum sounds? Maybe scoop out some low ends of your strum guitar? Sounds ok you know, but there's definitely some issues.

Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment.
The bass is just the root note of the chords, so it is kind of an discernible mass. I guess that's how I tend to use bass; I was trying not to making it too separate, but I may have gone a little too far with that.
I kind of like the sound of the plectrum, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean that it's good. I think I will try a bit more distance next time. Would it help at all to also plug in the guitar and mix that with the microphoned guitar? I guess maybe I should just try that and find out for myself...
Thank you again for listening and commenting. I'll see if I can address those things in this recording, and I will try to pay more attention to those things next time I record something.
