Okay....here's my dilemma. I have tracks on a BR-8 that I want to tranfer to Protools. I'm using version 6.7 for LE through a Digi 002 on my Mac. I'm trying to transfer all 8 tracks simultaneously using "digital out" from my recorder to "optical in" on the Digi 002, but for some reason each of the 8 tracks in Protools is a stereo mixdown of all 8 tracks on my recorder. I'm trying to get 8 separate isolated tracks all synchronized without having to transfer each track one by one. Is this even possible? Your help would be much appreciated

Without individual outs to do an analog transfer there is no way to do it quickly. You will need to transfer one track at a time and use pt's 'slip' mode to line them up. It helps if you put some kind of a drum hit across all eight tracks in the BR8 right before the song starts so that you have a visual reference point to line the tracks up.

Does the BR8 have an ADAT optical out??? i don't see it on the specs...unless this is an older model I'm looking at.

The BR8 has an optical out for connection to a Mini Disc input optical. So Im sure it aint possible to transfer seperate tracks.

Only way to do it is to export each single wave into Pro tools with the optical out on your BR8. Might be quicker if you export the single wave files to CD then import them to Pro tools.

I used to have a BR-8, and I also think that there is only a stereo output - there is not an output for each track. Never used the optical out.

There also used to be a software utility on the Roland web site which converted BR-8 formatted files to .wav files. The idea was to take the ZIP disk that you record with on the BR-8, put it in the computer, then this software application reads those files and saves them as wav files for you.

USB Zip drives are very cheap on e-bay.

This was a great idea in theory. Unfortunately, I never found this to actually work for me in practice. The software always converted the files too loudly, so they clipped when you played them back as wav files. I could never figure out a way to adjust this. Never called Roland tech support either though.

Should you actually get this software to work, this would make your job a lot easier, you would end up with 8 wav files that are all sync'ed up and ready to be pasted into a multi-track software app.

Good luck!

if i remember correctly, it does have an optical out-but it's only a 2 track out.
(it only looks like adat format)
