Tracking bass that's tuned very low.

Some metalbands tune in D or C or even B because they want that roaring and rumbling low. For guitars one could use thick strings and for bass the best solution is a set of strings for a five string bass and use the four thickest strings on a regular four string.

When you do that the bass strings won't rattle, no need to say you need somene who can really play.
 
Most bands that tune down to those lower scales also use larger gauge strings to compensate.
