Hi Guys , I'm not that computer savvy so I bought an old free standing 8 track digital lump. I know it will limit me but I want to get back into the joy of home recording from when I had an old 4 track cassette unit and could just bounce stuff and have fun. Will be recording drum machine, bass , guitar, keyboards and vocals. I know it won't be top.quailty but was wondering what would help me the most - a simple compressor? Any suggestions much appreciated. At this point I don't have the cash to buy a fast pc and a daw, so just something to get me going and enjoy my passion again. Thanks guys , Matt

What unit?

If it's a tape machine, you're going to be spending enough on tapes to make a computer look pretty attractive in not very long. Getting it serviced will seal the deal.

You don't need a super special computer or an expensive DAW to make great recordings. I record on an old Win7 machine in my friend's studio.

He said a DIGITAL lump, so I'm guessing it's a self contained unit, like Roland, Zoom or Tascam DP digital recorder. At least he won't go broke buying tape!

What’s a Digital Lump?

A lump, chunk, pile, piece of equipment that’s digital.

I was thinking DA88 or something, especially with outboard compression.

But, yeah, it's probably a self-contained unit.

We need to know the unit you have - and why you feel you need more gear - before we can make recommendations.
