How does $1000 compare in the 70's or 80's to the same amount today ? Is there some site that explains the value of a dollar, of decades gone by, as compared to today ? For example, some reel decks cost like $1400 in 1974 (MSRP) but then I would like to know how much this would be in today's dollar amounts.

Thanks!

It's amazing what a good search can do:

...even more amazing what $1000 could buy you in the mid 70's .. try approx $4000 today! WOW! :)

Or more!

In the mid 70's a house in Toronto was about 35K now its anywhere from 240 to 500K for the same house!!

A gallon of gas was around 35 cents...today, it around $3.00 bucks!

Monthly electricity bills were around 25 bucks, now they're over $100!

A shopping cart full of groceries was about 25 bucks...now it's over 200 for the same items. :(

In 1975 an executive's salary was considered pretty good at 25k a year, now if you make less then 40K, you're considered legally lower class and poor.

Somehow being able to buy a reel to reel for 10 cents on the dollar doesn't quite balance out the scales of economy to me. :o

Cheers! :)

Interesting indeed ...

What really impressed me is the cost of some of these TEAC decks then and I'm talking the average 7 1/2 ips ones you played your 2 tracks tapes with. These cost a nice 1/5th the "executive's salary" back then!!! Some other ones, the simulsync ones, cost double or triple that! WOW!!!
