TL Audio IVORY 5051 mic pre

does anyone have any experiance with this pre-amp, or does anyone have any opinions of it?

I would rather have two ART Dual MP's. The 5051 is so average sounding and comes far from living up to it's hype.

It is just plain vanilla sounding. The sounds coming out of it are not very open, nor do they sparkle. Everything tends to sound a bit small, and confined. It is very over-rated in my opinion. Frankly, I would rather use a Mackie preamp than the Ivory series stuff.

I owned a 5050 and I'll agree with Ford Van; very ordinary considering what they want for them.

I'm going to have to disagree. In my opinion, the 5051 Ivory sounded good. I haven't had much experience with it as I have not been exposed to the unit for long periods of time; however I've found it to be very easy to use and found it to sound quite good... although it could be a matter of personal taste.

What is the best preamp you have ever used?

im not so keep on the 5051 now, i have a focusrite platinum voicemaster pro but im just not really satified with it, and i thought the 5051 could be the next step up but not so sure now!

anyone have any recommendations on a nice pre, to step up from the focusrite?

whilst i agree it's not "all that", i don't think its really as bad as some of you guys are making out.


and for your reference Ford I've used Millenia HV-3D (8 ch version, not 4ch - now this is a truely beautiful pre. clean, clear, airy, just perfect), Neve 1078, Cranesong Falmingo and Groove Tubes VIPRE amongst a plethora of others...

Best Preamp I've used, by far, is the Avalon M5.
