M-Audio Mobile Pre: Still Viable?

I'm just getting back to this after a long absence, and Over got a Mobile Pre here by M-Audio. Are drivers still available for it? I don't even see mention of it on the M-Audio site.
Am I on a skateboard in a bus race? 😃

The last official driver update was about 15 years ago, for Snow Leopard and XP.

As far as I can tell, though, the device is class compliant so it should still work with your OS built in audio drivers,
assuming your current computer is something more modern.

The tradeoff, not using manufacturers drivers, is usually loss of features, additional inputs/outputs (beyond 2i/o) and increased latency.

Whether you should try to use it or not really depends on what your needs are (tell us more).
Technically still viable, yes, but I'd grab something newer for simplicity and, most likely, better quality preamps.

My USB Pre didn't work with Windows 10. I gave it away to someone using Win7. Also, it had other issues.

I was a big m-audio fan for years but then driver replacements just didn't come, so now none of their gear left, bar 2 8x8 midi switches that haven't been turned on for years

Sloom, give it a go! You should find the box will work as a "generic USB audio device" I don't know which DAW you are using but if you have a problem try Audacity. You should find the Windows WASAPI driver works fine. There will be a drop down list of drivers in Audacity but none will give you the low latency of an ASIO* driver but then you don't need low latency all that often.

*I had an M-A fast track pro many years ago and the ASIO drivers for that were pretty good. Later I got M-A Delta cards and they were blindingly fast, only bettered quite recently by my MOTU M4 (which I strongly commend to you should you be buying!)

Dave.

It has analog hardware input monitoring, so latency is not really a problem.

Mine got real buggy on Win10.

Ah, so maybe time to move on Mr S! If cash is really tight atmo the Behringers are worth a look. I would not go cheaper than the UMC204HD.

Dave.
