Hi folks! I'm a 100% new to digital recording and this site. I joined earlier this year, but my recording endeavors had to be put on hold for various reasons. Anyway, it looks like I'll be getting a PS-04 and I have a few questions regarding mix-down. I know there is some software that needs to be downloaded from the Zoom site, but what particular software (cheap is good, free is better!) is required to mix to my computer? Audacity? Cakewalk? Also, what is the trick to going from the computer to a website like soundclick, etc.?Some type of MP3 conversion software?

use kristal for simple recording. I just use itunes to change my wav file into an mp3 and put it on soundclick.

Hey, I really appreciate all of the input, folks! Just reading through some of the other posts here, I can tell I have aloooooot to learn about recording. So, I aquire the recorder of my choice, lay down some tracks, and if I want to edit/mix, I must export them to the computer? Does the PS-04 do a fair mix-down to just some type of medium on my PC or does the aforementioned software do a better job? Will I need a special soundcard or is that only when recording directly to the PC? Sorry for all the questions...

yeah, I'm in exactly the same place as you rev twang. How to connect PS-04 to laptop with AC97 soundcard, to record, save to laptop memory, put on my ipod and burn a disc for friends. No answers but "it seems I'm not alone in being alone"

Yeah, noahsboat (cool screen name!) I may be jumping the gun a little. I won't get my 04 until next week. I should probably at least have it in hand and read thru the manual before I ask questions. At least then I;d know what to be confused about.

Immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:

The PS04 does an outstanding job for mixdown, though I personally like to use more than 4 tracks so I tend to export to the PC. The PS04 site above has a 12 bar blues tutorial which should cover everything you need.

Hey, thanks HomeMade!!! I actually have posted on a similar topic over there. I found it after coming here. Somebody pointed me over there. Both of these are great forums. My PS-04 should get here tomorrow or Friday!
