My studio has been up and running since 2004 or so. I have carpeting with a thick pad over a triple latered floor which rides on a frame built of 2x4's which ride on U-boats. Insulation between each stud (very thick dense type similiar to quilting battling purchased from Aulalex. The floor is effectively decoupled from the rest of my home. Studio is upstairs above my master closet.

Lately I've noticed almost every home studio I like has wood floors. I'm pretty handy and could do this job myself. Question is, should I.
Your thoughts on a wood floor vs carpeting for a one room studio/control room.

When I need to record a group that has a drumset I set the drummer up in the nearby media room (very tall ceiling with bass traps in corners).

My studio/control room is roughly 12x18.

I prefer wood (or any other hard floor) for this simple reason: you can always add area rugs to bring the decay times down a little bit. You can't really do the opposite with carpet. I say go for the wood.

As you already have it, I would leave the carpet and lay a wood floor on top, maybe sheets of mdf that you can take up if needed. Try just putting the mdf under the drum kit. When I used to have a studio that already had carpet I placed chipboard (particle board) under the drums and had a sheet of masonite that I put down under acoustic guitarists.

Cheers
Alan.
