The shame some of you SHOULD feel by not reading this!

Wow. Who died and made Tex and I gurus? :) That's okay, we'll humbly accept the praise, right Tex? Now all of you, get on your knees while I berate you. :) :)

Seriously though, Ed, if you're checking out these responses at all, I do have just a quick question for you: If enough of us plunk down our $$ for these CDs, will at least some of that go towards helping solve a lot of the login problems we've been having as of late? If so, I will buy two. But as it is, I don't feel like these technical difficulties we have been having are worth my supporting/rewarding. Just my $.02.

Thanks for letting us know about the compilation CD. Hopefully, your campaign is a success and a lot of us will be proud owners.

All of the profits from the CD will be sent to dragon for the BBS. Will it help with the logon problems? Who knows, but after all is said and done we're looking at a total donation of ~$800-1000 which isn't too shabby. If we can pump another one out by next winter, then the Comp CD could really prove to be a great vehicle for keeping the BBS healthy.

I've only got 25 left by the way.

P.S., I had nothing to do with Ed's spamming...although I can't say that I'm disappointed! :) I guess he got sick of me bitching to him via IM :)

It's okay... that was sonusman talking; the man of the legendary "sonusman" thread in the Mixing/Mastering board here.

Abuse from anybody but him (& maybe chessrock, littledog, Blue Bear, TexRoadkill... & other gurus) shouldn't be considered nice ;)

:D

Chad

some ppls enjoy abuse.

thats what i got out of it.

Hey Slack,

Do you accept paypal?

Sorry if this question has already been asked like a gazillion times.

No paypal, check the FAQ at the beginning of the Homerecording.Comp forum! It has been asked and argued a gazillion times :) hehe

Sounds like this new marketing manager you've got is gonna work out.

PS - I'm a newbie, I'll wait a bit for the veterans to get their fill.

Perhaps you would like to elaborate on that.

I think the face explains it all...

and I didn't 'recognize' that there where any gurus in the "list" either....quite the contrary. Valued participants, good home reccors...I'd say so...gurus, I don't think so.

It's all good mixmkr. It was sarcastic anyways. Reading sonusman's (Ed's) stuff, you know that aggressive way is just his style. My first response was to ease the tensions with some humor.

Doubt that many of us here are pros, but calling people gurus isn't exactly a science... it's just a compliment :D

This nomenclature has always confused and amused me. Its been discussed to death - pro versus blah. Getting hung up on words like 'pro' is just plain silly. Not talking sound, that is far to subjective. No, guess it isn't, it has got to sound like this, or that. Or neither. It's just music, or maybe it's all about technojargon, or maybe it's just an idea.

Hitting the record button the odd time helps. Good therapy.

Well, off to see my 'pro' doctor tommorow, semi-artistic to. That would make him a 'pro' professional doctor.

pro would be somebody who gets paid for what they do.

the learned professions are theology law and medicine.

the oldest profession isnt prostitution.

no.

Sonus, you SPAMMER! Quit whining!

What's this have to do with MICROPHONES anyway?

I like this "I hate to spam, but I have to, and it's your fault, because you're not buying this lousy CD, that I don't want to get stuck with" attitude you've taken, sonus.

I guess SPAM's in the eyes of the beholder, and the ends justifies the means, doesn't it Sonus?

That's just payback for the berating I got over SPAM for DAVEMANIA.;)

I'll buy the CD, ok? I just got the money order, and it will be in the mail within a few days.

Just for the record, Emeric's not a PRO, but he's pretty darn good nonetheless.

It might be nice if dragon or some of the moderators would even occasionally communicate with the rest of the great unwashed. There were myriad posts about "too many members" and other sluggish aspects of the site, but i never saw anyone deign to respond. Perhaps I'm not lurking in the right areas? Doesn't exactly fill one with confidence or inspire one to send money.

Good points, jeap. What I meant by "pro" was the subjective measure we all use to describe the level of someone's work. That is a "pro" mix (short for "professional")... also kind of meant guys that work for major labels and artists. That's kind of what I tried to imply. Haven't been here long enough to know if any people here do actually record/engineer/produce the major label stuff, but the above mentioned group, plus macle, Harvey, mixmkr and others are "pro" enough for me! :):):)

littledog, you're basically right,...

that for one reason or another, Dragon's a very hands-off webmaster, and I assume because he's basically to busy to pay too much attention to HRcom. Do you see all the different websites he has,... all listed at the bottom of the forum pages? I've never stopped to count, but it's a lot. Also, the guy's only human, and has a family, apparently, acording to sonus, and I'm sure he needs to make a normal living. I doubt if any real income is generated by his websites.

The moderators are also basically hands off, and are as likely to engage in nasty name calling and flamefests as any normal off-the-street member.

If you read one of Sonus's other posts, he's basically right, that Dragon's gonna remain hands-off, unless or until someone emails complaints to him enough for him to do something,... just out of a nuisance factor.

The members drive the content of this website, almost 100%, and the webmaster and moderators are pretty much hands-off. Don't take it personally, littledog. It's not you.

Also, I've noticed the "too busy" messages on this board very often lately, too, and I assume that there's a network bottleneck or degraded availablity that's technical in nature and probably just temporary, and will be worked out.

If you read the login stats on the forum main page, you'll see that this website is capable of handling well over 100 logged-in members, and the occasions that there's a "too many members logged in" message, in reality there's probably only a few members logged in, and some other technical problem causing this.

Thanks for the response, Reel.

By the way, on the earlier topic, I AM a "pro" - meaning this is how I pay my bills. But that doesn't mean I know any more or that my stuff is any better than anyone else here. It just means I've fooled a lot of people into giving me their money!;)

You _are_ better, littledog! Admit it! :D:D

Littledog- I need some lessons on fooling people,,, err, umm, I mean marketing my product, yeah thats it, marketing.
Got any tried and true marketing techniques?
(please don't say "word of mouth")

OK. I promise I won't say "word of mo...", uh, you know.

I have never done any advertising, unless you count printing up some business cards. My whole business is based on repeat business, either from the same clients, or from the sidemen that the clients bring with them. The reputation then spreads exponentially (at least one hopes.)

So the real key is to provide a highly satisfactory recording experience for the clients and sidemen while they are here. Make them eager to come back.

That's done on a lot of levels - obviously foremost is the recorded product. But what helps to create that product is an atmosphere conducive to creativity. What contributes to that in my case probably includes having a great dog and a killer girlfriend (adding ambience), interesting and unusual food and drinks, and an engineer who comes across as both sensitive and competent, with good people skills.

If you can offer something a little different than others in your area (like a vintage harpsichord, or an exotic collection of guitar amps or percussion instruments) that can help set you apart as well.

More often than not if a client is happy with their first project, they'll come back to you with their second, because they will have established a working relationship and comfort level.
