Thanks for the spin Rayc.
The bass patch is one of the stock patches in Reason.
It sounded different and actually made it easier to hear while tracking the drums.
Here's a screen shot.
Ha, I just noticed the bass amp is 1974 Rock Classic.

Cool tune Manslick and I agree with rayc that the vocals are very enjoyable. If you went back to the song it would be good to hear some changes in dynamics somewhere, but it's nice as is.

Happy new year man :)

Happy new year and thanks for the spin.

I keep working on this, re-recording drums, bass, mixing. Then played it in the car and puked. I may have to hire Massive Mastering.

Personally, I think the kick drum has too much sub in it, causing the entire track to "buckle" a little bit when it plays. I'd tighten it up, maybe throw in some 1.2k on the kick to give it some snap and weight. I'd consider compressing the OH's a bit and giving them a little more love in the mix to add much needed ambiance.

I'd keep the bass guitar center/mono. Panning it sounds gimmicky and detracts from the song.

The problem with my overheads is the crash cymbals and the hi hat. Too much love and that brass take over the mix. It’s a fine line I have to toe and make certain compromises which inevitably leaves something to be desired. I’ve not yet mastered the subtleties of drum stick control to hit a tom at 90 mph and then a crash at 30 mph. I agree the kick is too deep and I work on this thing daily. I followed Greg’s sticky for drum eq but like all guides there is a lot of latitude for misinterpretation. My plan right now is to acquire a boom so I can move my mic closer to the batter head and hopefully tame some of the boom from that sad little 22. I have a date with a music store today. I’ve also already changed the bass line and the patch as I had to not only find a different sound but also de-cheese the bass playing, which I found to be no simple task. So you are dead on and I thank you for your agreeable comments. :)

New Mix

Can't edit OP so I upload new mix here.

I turned off java in my browser which disables SoundCloud embeded links. I read Java is risky now.

So, new drum track. New bass drum batter head and wood batter. Tuned drums.

Cut out the reso head and placed the kick drum mic inside. Most of the track is from the OH. Added a drum room ambiance in the mix.

Raised level of OH in track but that caused the ride to irritate me so I laid a towel over it. During the middle part you may hear the first turn is hitting the towel then the brass. Screwed up there just before the return.

New snare drum. Not used to it yet. Used different sticks. They are harder than old, that is making the HH and ride too bright.

Tried to de-cheese bass line but I don't think so. Changed bass tone and took out the panning.

Loosened the vocal track by backing off the compression.

All comments welcome.

With respect -M

Hmm, thanks alkie. I hadn't thought of it those terms but I guess in a way is is flower flower.

New mix.

Closer?

Re tracked drums. I tamed the ride by adding a felt, placed a broad band panel next to the OH mic so the reflection off the wall would be dampened and added some gating.

Re tracked bass. I like this one better especially near the end. So melodic.

Added 10 tracks of vocal harmonies to fill the 2 second space at the end.

Thanks
