They're all old now. NOFX, Bad Religion, and Descendents come from the same time and place, though NOFX was just a bit later. Bad Religion was probably the biggest influence on NOFX, and NOFX was sort of a BR ripoff in the early days until they found their own sound. Both bands are great and still put out good, relevant stuff...though NOFX is way more entertaining. They're a bunch of clowns that play funny warp-speed politically incorrect punk rock. Bad Religion is more serious. NOFX never "sold out". Bad Religion kind of did in the 90s, but no one really holds it against them like they did with other 90s punk bands. Punk elitists respect Bad Religion. No one really respects the Offspring, Rancid, or Green Day.

Lol. Good luck.

Yeah, BR had Eddie Vedder singing backing on one of their albums didn't they. I think if BR had totally changed their sound they'd have been hated but they always sounded relatively similar and had a bit of integrity. I like the more serious side of their music in comparison to NOFX, I prefer the more introspective intreesting lyrics. I saw Pennywise supported by Strung Out and someone else, might have been Guttermouth in the 90s. That was a pretty wild show.

I didn't know Rancid were classified as sellouts - the last Rancid album I've heard though is Out Come the Wolves. I don't think you can really accuse Greenday of selling out 'cos they were never anything but a cheesy pop band.

EDIT: Fucking hell, I just got 31s into White Pony by the Deftones.

To both of their credit, they were already very well established by the time the pop-punk explosion of the early 90s took hold. Bad Religion went to a major label, got all over the radio and MTV, and no one really cared. NOFX stayed independent, got no mainstream/commercial support whatsoever, and no one really cared. Bad Religion probably sold more albums in the 90s because of the major backing, but I've seen both bands several times and NOFX always draws a bigger crowd than Bad Religion does...and NOFX's songs are just inherently more fun. Bad Religion is very serious. No humor. NOFX is a laugh a minute while also being equally as sociopolitically ouspoken as BR. That's what draws me to NOFX over BR. They're funny about their commentary, and frankly, more diverse. Both bands kick ass though.

I actually like both Rancid and Green Day in small doses, but they're very sterile. There's no danger to either of those bands. They're radio friendly pop-punk that's easily digestible. Green Day was fairly popular before their explosion in 94, and to their credit, they haven't changed much. Their fans have though. I doubt many old school Green Day fans still like them. I know I don't. Kerplunk and Dookie were great, Nimrod is pretty good, and everything else is bleh. They got soft(er). But they've done what any band dreams of, and that's keep a young fanbase. The old school punks they lost were replaced by millennials that were barely alive when they hit it big. Rancid is a different story for me. I don't remember them having any kind of presence before they exploded. They were like a corporate designed postcard punk band. I know their roots come from Op Ivy, but Rancid seemed like the Backstreet Boys of radio punk rock to me. I don't consider them sell-outs.

Oooh, I think that's their big hit maybe? I don't know.

Ah, well I'm into Grunge. I like my music introspective and brooding.

The Offspring... They sold out terribly. I remember them from surfing videos in the early 90s then they went massive with the Nah nah nah nah nah song.

Greenday... Surf girls always liked Greenday.

Anyway, I've given up on punk and metal and started writing ukulele music

greetings from Amsterdam! I was wondering what was going in Chicago yesterday. we had a mammoth layover there and I kept seeing dudes and chick's in black concert tees with various band logos. misfits was one of them. sounds like it was a great time!

anyways, now that we've spent 36 hours flying, waiting, flying, waiting, flying, drinking and finally napping, we're ready to hit the town. I'm sure I'll get a chance to listen to tones in the next couple weeks in idle moments. but for now I'm going to try to avoid getting mugged in the red light district :)

Red Light district is a great night out! You got kids with you or you just with the Mrs?

Just the Mrs. tomorrow my oldest friend, his wife, and a friend of theirs are joining us. they've been in Brussels for the last several days. judging get by their Facebook feeds, I think Belgium needs to take a few weeks to restock their beer supply.

I never really thought of this thread as a library of clips, but I suppose that would be cool if it was. It just never crossed my mind to save all that stuff for later reference.

I realized that a few months ago, but missed a lot of really good clips because I just never thought about it...IIRC, I started keeping clips from this thread in March of this year...Of course, there were a bunch I've missed & would love to have, but they're gone...

I clean out my dropbox every so often too, & that's how I came to realize I should've been downloading these clips all this time...:(

Not trying to blow your head up or anything Greg, but I've used your tracks on several occasions as a reference to use for some of my tones....

Damn we might have been at that airport at the same time. I was there yesterday morning to come back to Houston.

Enjoy Amsterdam. Be careful. I hear the thugs there look like doctors and lawyers over here.

Haha that's cool, thanks. I give all of the credit to good guitar gear. It sure aint me.

Be a little careful in those coffee shops, mate. The stuff they have there is probably a lot stronger than anything you've smoked before! Make sure you take the time to visit Anne Franks house and the Rijksmuseum. If you need to skip something, skip Van Gogh. Unless you're a massive fan it's a bit of a let down.

You gonna make it to my side of the channel?

As much as it'd go against everything I've fought for the last 8-9 years, I'd love to smoke a big 'ol fat doobie...I don't have to worry about a work-related drug screen anymore, but I do still take a monthly screen for the program I'm in....Damn man, take a toke or two for me.....:D

I think I smoked enough second hand pot last weekend to fail a drug test. Reason #8597685964860 that I hate pot. It's smelly and offensive. No one has to smell LSD or Heroin.

I loved smoking pot back when I smoked it. But, I was to a point that I could smoke a joint and get a buzz and that was it. I could smoke 10 joints after that and the buzz didn't change. It was like smoking cigarettes at that point. expensive cigarettes at that!
7 years ago I said; "I'm not smoking anymore" and I crushed out the cigarette I was smoking. No pot smoke or cigarette smoke has been in my lungs since.
I don't need it.

I get it guys, it does stink, & wouldn't be good for me health-wise, just like cigarettes...
I only smoked it at special occasions back in the day, like my birthday, the day after my birthday, the day before my birthday...:laughings:

While at times I think it'd be a great nerve medication for me, I can't risk getting booted out of the program I'm in...Over 8 years now, & I've never failed a drug screen, no need in starting that again...

kinda like coffee

lol ..... not the stuff I get .... if I did get any ..... which I'm denying.

But it wouldn't be even possible to smoke an entire joint of this stuff .... that I don't get and am making up.

It's difficult to take more than 2 hits ..... of the imaginary pot I'm denying having at my gigs because, no .... no all-watching police state .... I don't do any such thing .... at least not more than 2 hits anyways!

:laughings:

Lol.....good one Bob....I do have to admit about a year ago, I did have like a half a doobie, & just like you're sayin' about 2 hits were all I needed...Way more potent than anything I can remember, & I was a daily smoker for years....

I've been a daily smoker for about 45 years .... NO one is a more experienced smoker and I still can't do more than a hit or two of this stuff.

These days they've crossbred the stuff 'till it bears no resemblance to the stuff of even 15 years ago ..... It's an entirely different animal.

It's just so useful ( for me ) for playing music. Especially some of these boring restaurant gigs I do. If I'm stoned I'm up there totally engrossed in my playing and trying to play excellently .... otherwise I'm staring at the clock bored out of my mind.

I know very many can't play well on it ... they get lost, lose their places .... miss chords etc. ..... I'm the exact opposite. I play better.

To an extent, it's same with alcohol .... at Jamfest a few years back I was drinking a half gallon of Captain Morgan and was about halfway thru it and Chris Harris and some guys were off to the side.
Chris told me later that he said, "How does he do that? It's like the drunker he gets, the better he plays!"
:D

Hell, back in the day I did gigs on acid and the band would tell me they hadn't noticed anything, although I have to admit .... it was a struggle to maintain.
I'm an anomaly, I know ..... but that's just the way I've always been.

I have a strict two drink limit nowadays when I'm driving to and from a gig ..... not because more will affect my playing ..... I just don't need a DUI.

It's cool man, I too was a daily smoker until I traded my weed for pain killers...Spiraled out of control for a lot of years, losing quite a few friends, & lost quite a bunch of gear during that time...The main reason I even tried pills were they didn't make my eyes red/glassy like weed, so I could hide it better from the ex-wife...Wish I could go back & change things, I'd kept smoking here/there & would've never did anything else...My life was terrible for a long time because of this, I didn't actually have a life, I just existed...

Back in my gigging days, I'd drink a beer or two, but could never handle alcohol unless it was really small amounts...It was fun back in those days to pile up in the van during break to burn a doobie with the rest of the band...

Never did a gid on acid, don't think I could pull it off to be honest...

Nothing at all wrong with knocking off the edge with a beer, shot of whiskey, or a little weed...

I dropped some acid and played a gig one time. We were starting the ZZ Top song "La Grange" when it hit me. I'm bumping those two notes in A and I couldn't figure out when to hit the other two chords...
hahaha
I'm just bumping the A chord for the entire song watching drops of sweat the size of golf balls drip off my hair and hit the floor...exploding into rainbows of vivid color.
Lol
Man I was out of it and pretty much useless for the remainder of the gig. I would need to get some air and walk outside and all the crickets and grasshoppers chirping was freaking me out....then I would go back in the bar and I though everyone was talking about me behind my back (They probably were!)
hahaha
I was 17 years old and in my first band. I got voted out of the group immediately after the gig.
I was crushed and the next day apologized and begged them to let me back in. But, The bass player owned all the PA equipment and pretty much called the shots. He stood firm and I was out.
I deserved to be outed and it was a great lesson and motivator for me. It taught me to keep my head clear for gigs. It also drove me to get much better at playing guitar. I wanted those guys to regret firing me! Lmao.
I played in bands with all of them, in future gigs, except the bass player....he sucked on bass and vocals too.

The drummer, from that group, and I picked up a good bass player and had a killer 3 piece group. We always drew a big crowd doing guitar heavy rock....so it was all good in the long run.
:)

What do you guys think of this? For me right from the intro that tone is great to me. The "clean" channel sounds ok but I would want a prestine tone for that amount of money, not a jacked pushed "clean" like that. The 3rd channel is good too but man that amp in general sounds amazing to me.
